Lemonade stand to raise money for Alzheimer’s disease

Brody’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Colwell’s Xpress Lube, 660 S. Leechburg Hill Road, Allegheny Township.

There will be food trucks and a summer fun raffle. Sponsored by Brody Toy, money raised will go to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in memory of his great-grandfather Joseph Kish.


Free fishing derby for kids slated in Burrell Lake Park

Burrell Lake Park Kids’ free fishing derby for kids ages 15 and younger will be Saturday at the park.

Registration is from 7:30 to 9 a.m.; fishing from 9 to 11 a.m.; and presentation of prizes is from 11:30 a.m. to noon. All participants receive a prize grab bag and free lunch. Prizes include rods and reels, tackle boxes and fishing lures for the longest fish caught in each category.

A limited number of loaner fishing rods and night crawlers will be available on a first-come basis. You can use your own fishing bait or lures.

Helpers will be on hand to assist the kids and measure the fish. Catch and release fishing only. For more information, call 412-298-0964 or email tctcnews@gmail.com.

Gilpin

Today: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Saturday: Schenley American Legion will host a car cruise from noon to 4 p.m. at the post, 383 Schenley Road. Vehicle entrance fee: $10. There will be a DJ, food, drinks and a 50/50. Proceeds will benefit local veterans’ charity Five Forces. Details: 724-396-7205.

Harrison 

Monday through Friday: Building Block of Natrona provides lunches for children from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Natrona Community Park. Children do not have to live in Allegheny County. Reservations are encouraged to allow for ordering enough meals but are not required. Lunch reservations: text 724-257-1117 with the number of children attending.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: Fun and Freedom will host a free community picnic in the park event from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Natrona Park and playground on River Avenue. There will be food, music, sports, games and activities. Details: 724-274-7773.

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide present their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Saturday: Community Library of Allegheny Valley will host a luau at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd. to kick off the summer reading program, “Oceans of Possibilities.” Drop in any time from 6 to 7:30 p.m. An underwater volcano demonstration will be at 6:15 and 7 p.m. and there will be a book fair and an opportunity to meet summer reading mascot Clark the Shark. Saturday: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a Louis’ Pop-Up Shop from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the hospital courtyard, Natrona Heights. Merchandise will include bamboo sheets, 1500-thread count sheets, unisex bracelets, Bluetooth speakers and cross body purses. Cash, credit and debit cards, checks and mobile payments accepted. A portion of proceeds will benefit the auxiliary.

Leechburg 

Today: A New Path Al-Anon Family Group, a free, confidential program for anyone whose life has been affected by someone else’s drinking, will meet at 7 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, 251 Main St. Face masks and social distancing required.

Saturday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will feature the band G6 from 8 to 11 p.m. at the post, Wildlife Lodge Road. Members and three guests welcome.

Saturday and Tuesday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Items available include clothing for all members of the family, shoes and linens. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Summer clothing donations accepted during business hours.

June 15: Peoples Library will offer two programs with the Allegheny Land Trust at the library, 880 Barnes St. “Animal Athletes,” will be at 1 p.m. Compare skills with some Pennsylvania mammals. West Deer
