Highlands SD schedules Early Childhood Fair

Highlands School District will host the annual Kindergarten and Pre-K Counts Registration and Early Childhood Fair from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the district Early Childhood Center, 1060 Atlantic Ave., Brackenridge.

Parents should bring their child’s original birth certificate, two proofs of residency and the child’s immunization records. Pre-K Counts registrants must also bring two proofs of income, such as pay stubs or W-2s. Parents will complete the required registration and get an overview of the Pre-K Counts or kindergarten program. Presentations will be at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Kindergarten parents will schedule a summer screening date.

Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to register for kindergarten. Children must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 1 to register for Pre-K Counts. For questions, call 724-226-2400, ext. 1600.

Salvation Army free lunch distribution offered Thursday

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center in Brackenridge offers free grab and go lunches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.

Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Free tax preparation available at Springdale library

Springdale Free Public Library is accepting appointments for AARP’s free income tax preparation services.

Appointments are available Thursdays and Saturdays Feb. 5 to April 14 at the library, 331 School St. Services will be scheduled as same day drop off and pick up appointments, not in person tax preparation. Appointments are required; no walk-ins will be accepted.
