March 18 event to honor hometown heroes

A Hometown Hero Thank You event will be from noon to 5 p.m. March 18 at the Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Lane, to honor the first responders who serve in Harrison, Brackenridge, Tarentum, Fawn, Frazer and Allegheny Valley Regional police, fire and rescue departments.

The public is welcome. Sponsored by the Cookie Brigade, Girl Scouts and Hilltop Hose, there will be a place to take your photo with a first responder, children’s activities, presentations and a Pittsburgh Cookie Table.

Tickets on sale now for annual bowling party fundraiser

The Pins for Pets bowling party to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Nesbit Bowling Lanes, 3501 Leechburg Road, Plum.

Admission is $25 and includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, two slices of pizza, cake, pop and snacks. For tickets, visit animalprotectors.net or stop in at the shelter, 730 Church St., New Kensington.

St. Patrick’s Day dance party planned in West Leechburg

The eighth annual dance party fundraiser will be from 5 to 10 p.m. March 18 at West Leechburg Fire Hall, 1116 Gosser St.

The St. Patrick’s Day-themed event will have music, dancing, a gift basket auction, caricature artist and 50-50 raffle. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25 per person or $45 for couples. The price includes beer, pop, water and light bites. Those attending must be 21 or older. The event is sponsored by Semper Gratus. For tickets, visit kvcares.com. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Saturday: Apollo Events Committee will sponsor a bake sale to benefit the Bring Back the Fireworks Fund from noon to 4 p.m. in Apollo Plaza. Saturday: Pioneer Hose Fire Department will host a spaghetti dinner in honor of fallen Brackenridge police Chief Justin McIntire from noon to 6 p.m. at the firehall, 124 Morgan St. Cost: $10; 12 and younger, $5. Parking will be available in the Salvation Army parking lot. There will be a basket raffle and 50-50 and memorial T-shirts, bracelets and window decals will be sold. Tickets: at the door. Proceeds will be donated to McIntire’s family.

April 29: Salvation Army of Allegheny Valley is accepting reservations for a vendor and craft fair set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Cost: $15 for an 8-foot table and a basket donation for a raffle. Frazer

March 18: The New Kensington Camera Club and Focus on the Arts Gallery will offer a free workshop, “Basics of Photo Editing Using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop,” from 1 to 4 p.m. in suite 208 at Pittsburgh Mills Mall. Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Sunday: The Knights of Columbus will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the council home, 28 Garfield St., Natrona. Cost: $6; younger than 6, $3.

Springdale
