Music concert to benefit Lighthouse Foundation

A concert featuring mezzo soprano Marianne Cornetti will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Main St., Saxonburg.

A graduate of Knoch High School, Jefferson, Cornetti has sung leading roles on some of the world’s greatest opera stages, including La Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera.

A reception will be afterward. Donations will be accepted to benefit Lighthouse Foundation.


Free diapers available to local families

The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, is seeking donations of diapers in sizes 2 to 6 for its monthly diaper pantry distribution.

The pantry will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 926 Painter Ave., Natrona Heights.

To qualify to receive a package of 50 diapers or 25 Pull-Ups per child, parents or guardians must present their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.


Community Clothes Closet to hold bag sale

The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, offers clothing, including coats, shoes, boots, for men, women and children, linens and blankets, and uniforms for students of Mary Queen of Apostles School.

A buck-a-bag sale will be Monday through March 28. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays. A drop-off container for donations is at the entrance.

Saturday: Freeport Kiwanis and Freeport Area Key Club will host a turkey and biscuit dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria, 625 S. Pike Road. Saturday: A St. Patrick’s Day spaghetti dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 66 Grant Ave. Menu: spaghetti with choice of marinara, meat or pesto sauces, salad, bread, St. Patrick’s Day cupcake and beverage. Dine in or take out. Cost: $8; 12 and younger, $5.

Harmar

Saturday: The Syria Shrine Center will host a Night at the Races at 7 p.m. at the center, 1877 Shriners Way. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Admission: $20, includes food, soft drinks, coffee and beer. Saturday: A chicken and biscuit dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. at Spring Church Lutheran Church, 3623 Lutheran Church Road. Menu: chicken and biscuit, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, dessert and beverage. Cost: $9; age 6 to 12, $4.50; age 5 and younger, free. Take-outs add 50 cents. Handicapped accessible.
