Seminar for Highlands parents planned March 26

Allegheny Family Network North will host a seminar about racial identity for parents of Highlands School District students at 5:30 p.m. March 26 at the center, 1600 Pacific Ave., suite 10, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Dinner will be served and parents will hear information from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education Office of Child Development and have the opportunity to share experiences, issues and insight into raising children who positively identify with their race in the community.

Parents will receive a bundle of books to take home for their children and free daycare will be available on site.

Open door luncheon to be served at Allegheny Valley Church of God

Allegheny Valley Church of God, 216 Catalpa St., New Kensington, will host a free open door luncheon at noon Wednesday.

Beef stroganoff and more will be served as long as the food lasts. For details, call 724-335-0994.


Alle-Kiski History Center to present video program

The Allegheny-Kiski History Center will present video excerpts from “Duty, Courage, Honor – Southwestern Pennsylvania Goes to War,” at 1 p.m. Thursday at the center, 224 E. Seventh Ave.

Veterans from the Alle-Kiski Valley who served from the 1940s to 1970s were interviewed on camera and shared their memories.

Donations will be accepted. To be considered for inclusion in future videos, call the center at 724-224-7666.

March 26 and 27: Allegheny Valley Hospital PriorityCare program will offer the two-day option of the AARP Smart Driver Program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Charles W. Young Conference Center at the hospital, 1301 Carlisle Ave. Proof of prior attendance and valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required. Leechburg

March 22: The Elks will host a vendor bingo at 1 p.m. at the lodge, 228 Market St. Doors open at noon. There will be 13 bingo games with vendor prizes and a $250 must-go jackpot. The kitchen will be open, and there will be small games of chance, silent auctions and a 50/50 raffle. Those attending must be at least 18 years old. Cost: $20. Wednesday: Kiski Valley Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. in the Washington Township Municipal Building, 285 Pine Run Church Road. Topics will include the new mail-in ballot and voter turnout and candidates will speak briefly about their campaigns. All registered Democrats and Independents welcome.
