Medication drop-off boxes available in Butler County
Butler County residents are reminded that several drop-off boxes are available for disposal of unwanted medications.
Boxes are located in the lobby of the Saxonburg Police Department, in the municipal building, 420 W. Main St., and the Penn Township Police Department, 157 E. Airport Road, and can be accessed during business hours.
The drop boxes keep unwanted medications from being abused by family members or friends who have addiction issues and out of the water supply after flushing or poisoning the environment in landfills.
Freeport firefighters accepting donations
Freeport Volunteer Fire Department is conducting its annual fund drive. Letters were mailed recently to all residents, businesses and property owners within the service area.
If you did not receive a donation request in the mail and wish to support the fire department, you can mail your donation to: Freeport Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 158, Freeport, PA 16229.
Allegheny Township offices remain closed to the public
The Allegheny Township Tax office and Municipal Authority office, both located at 1001 S. Leechburg Hill Road in Kiski Park Plaza remain closed to walk-in customers.
Payments can be sent by mail or left in the drop box at the office. Please enclose a self-address, stamped envelope if a receipt is required.

Salvation Army free lunch distribution planned Thursday
The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center in Brackenridge offers free grab and go lunches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.
Lower Valley Food Bank offers assistance
Lower Valley Community Food Bank will distribute food from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday from the rear entrance of the Springdale borough building.
No one should arrive before 12:45 p.m. Enter onto Walnut Street on the side of the borough building from James Street. Traffic volunteers will guide vehicles.
Anyone in need of food who lives in Springdale, Springdale Township, Cheswick, Harmar and the sections of Indiana Township and West Deer with a zip code of 15024 is welcome. New recipients can register Thursday.
