Applications available for Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarships

Applications are being accepted for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship program.

Students must have financial need, demonstrate good grades, participate in extra curricular activities and submit an essay, poem or drawing expressing attributes of King.

Applications are available at area high school guidance offices and at the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches office, 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Plum Rotary sponsoring sock collection for the homeless

Plum Rotary Club is collecting new men’s and women’s socks for the homeless.

Donations can be dropped off through April 5 at the Plum Municipal Building, Holiday Park Shop ‘n Save, Penn Hills Shop ‘n Save, S&T Bank in Murrysville and Sampson Family YMCA.

Thursday: Community Library of Allegheny Valley will sponsor a coloring contest for children in observation of National Library Week. Hoagies are 14 inches and varieties are Italian, ham and Swiss, turkey, All-American, roast beef, smoked ham and cheddar, traditional, three cheese and ham club.
