Night of comedy to benefit It’s About the Warrior veterans charity

A comedy night featuring WDVE-FM’s Bill Crawford will be April 18 at the Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Drive, Harrison.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Those attending must be at least 21 years old. Tickets are $30 each and include two drinks. There will be a cash bar. The kitchen will be closed and snacks will be permitted.

For tickets, call Cy at 412-801-1781 or stop in at the post. Proceeds will benefit the `It’s About the Warrior Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to assist and empower post 9/11 veterans and their families in the tri-state with financial grants, home improvements and therapeutic and outreach programs.

Rep. Dermody to host staffs from office of attorney general, Bureau of Consumer Protection

The staff of Attorney General Josh Shapiro will be at the office of Rep. Frank Dermody, 1331 Freeport Road, Harmar, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday to answer questions and discuss complaints with local residents.

This week is National Consumer Protection Week and specially trained staff from the Bureau of Consumer Protection will also be on hand to answer questions, show people how to make complaints and help them to sign up for scam alerts.

Maple sugaring program planned Saturday

Shad and Natalie Jaworskyj of Maple Ridge Farm and Bakery will present a program about maple sugaring at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek, 142 Kerr Road, off Crooked Creek Dam Road, Bethel.

There will be a demonstration on how maple trees are tapped and how sap is turned into syrup and sugar. Maple syrup will be available for purchase.

This is a free program, but donations are suggested.

The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek is a multi-use facility operated under the auspices of the Armstrong Center for Community Learning and is available year-round to organized groups and businesses for environmental education, workshops, meetings or retreats. Brackenridge Salvation Army to serve free lunch

A free community lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Salvation Army, 917 Brackenridge Ave., Brackenridge.

March 14 and 15: A wilderness First Aid and CPR course will be offered at 8:30 a.m. at the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek, 142 Kerr Road. The course will include over 16 hours of training. Thursday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will host indoor cornhole games at 7:30 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Partners will be drawn each week and there will be prizes. Public welcome.

March 11: Highlands High School will offer a mini-musical workshop for district students in third through sixth grades from 6 to 8 p.m. in the high school choir room and auditorium, Natrona Heights. Cost: $20. Students will have pizza and snacks, learn vocals and choreography, meet the high school musical cast and receive a backstage tour pass to be used after the musical performance.
