Annual March for Parks set for March 27

The annual Westmoreland County March for Parks event will be March 27 at nine locations in the county, including Northmoreland Park in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland Heritage Trail in Export and Murrysville and Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg.

Check in is from 9 a.m. to noon. Walkers will turn in donations and contributions and those who turn in at least $30 will earn an event t-shirt or doggie bandana.

Projects in Northmoreland Park that will benefit from funds raised include a destination playground, upgrades to the athletic fields and improvements to the lake walkways.

Canned food drive to benefit local food bank

The Tarentum Recreation Board and Allegheny Valley Association of Churches is conducting a canned food drive through Monday to benefit the association food bank.

Contributions are being accepted at the following Tarentum businesses: Seita Jewelers, Harvest Moon Coffee and Chocolates, Asay’s News Stand, Dry Bones, Costello Printing, Diamond Antiques and Merle Norman Cosmetics.

March 13: Space applications are being accepted by St. James Parish for a vendor fair planned for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish center, 109 Owens View Ave. All vendors welcome. Brackenridge

Saturday: Brownie Troop 28848 will have a drive-thru Girl Scout cookie sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. Varieties: Thin Mints, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Samoas, Toffee-tastic, Do-Si-Dos, S’Mores and Lemon Ups.

Butler County

Saturday: The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Butler County will offer a free online support group at Zoom.us for families and friends of those living with a mental illness. March 14: A vendor bingo will be hosted at 1 p.m. in the Elks ballroom, 128 Market St. Doors open at noon. Ten games will award vendor prizes and the 11th game will be a $250 must-go jackpot. April 1: Tickets are on sale for a No Foolin’ Lottery Scratch-off Ticket Raffle to benefit Leechburg Area Community Association and Leechburg Public Library. April 17: Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company is accepting applications for vendors for an outside Rally on the River set for noon to 6 p.m. at the firemen’s grounds, 268 Canal St. Vendors are responsible for their own signs, tables, chairs and tent. New Kensington

Today: Knead Community Café in New Kensington will hand out free grab-and-go dinners from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the café, 1011 Barnes St. This week’s meals are sponsored by Larry Lyle. Those picking up meals are reminded to observe social distancing while they wait in line.

Saturday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., will reopen this weekend. Hours will be 11 to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

March 31: A quilt raffle will benefit Frankie’s Friends Cat Rescue in New Kensington and Black Cat Cat Rescue in Pittsburgh. The quilt is 37 x 37-inches and includes a hanging rod.
