Girl Scouts collecting gently-used shoes

Are you cleaning out your closets while staying home? Oakmont-Verona Girl Scout Troop 52359 is collecting gently-used shoes through June 12.

All types of shoes, including sneakers, flip flops, heels and boots will be accepted. No holes in toes, broken heels, mold or mud please.

No-contact drop off locations include:

• 501 12th St., Oakmont, bin on the porch

• 1417 Eaton Drive, Oakmont, covered porch

• 325 Jefferson St., in the East Oakmont section of Plum, front of the garage

Collected shoes are used to support micro-enterprise vendors in developing nations.

Free produce distribution planned Saturday in Natrona

Building Block of Natrona will host its free Veggies for All and Cosmetics Closet outreach for residents in need from 1 to 2:30 p.m. or as long as supplies last Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 28 Garfield St., Natrona, Harrison.

Free produce, and personal care and hygiene products will be distributed.

Extra hygiene steps will be taken. Income verification is not required, and everyone is welcome. Please wear a mask.

Saved By Grace to serve free dinners

A free drive-through dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Saved By Grace Church, 739 Prospect St., Brackenridge.

The menu will include potato soup or chili. Delivery is available to Brackenridge addresses. Advance orders are encouraged by calling 724-230-6739 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. Only 50 orders per half hour time slot will be accepted to control traffic in front of the building.

Saved By Grace would like to thank everyone who has donated money and products to enable the church to continue to provide the meals.

Donations welcome for the Friendship Garden Food Pantry

Donations for the food pantry in the Tarentum Friendship Garden can be dropped off at the pantry on First Avenue or at the side doors to First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock St., Tarentum.

Items needed include cereal, bread, canned vegetables, soup, macaroni and cheese, rice, spaghetti and pasta sauce.

Natrona Heights VFW collecting for local veterans

Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars is collecting non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies and personal care products for local veterans.

Contributions can be dropped off in the pavilion located behind the post at 894 Veterans Lane, Harrison.

Purchases for donation can be made online at Walmart.com. When checking out, select the pickup store as the Natrona Heights location and list Joe Musco as the alternate pickup person. Include his cell number: 724-443-6829.

Redemption Church to serve free dinners

Redemption Church in Lower Burrell will distribute free hoagies at 5 p.m. Friday in the UHaul parking lot on Leechburg Road.

No registration is required, first come, first served. Look for the red tent.

Fox’s Pizza Den fundraiser to benefit Kiski Township Fire Department

Fox’s Pizza Den in Spring Church will donate 20 percent of all sales in May that are ordered with a flyer to the Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Pot Love Dinner planned Saturday in Leechburg

Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, Leechburg, will host its monthly free Pot Love Dinner at noon Saturday at the church, 271 Main St.

The event will be takeout only and reservations are required by Friday. There is a limit of one dinner per family member. For reservations, call 724-845-1901 or email church@crcpc.org.

Line-up will be outside and everyone must observe social distancing. Dinners are held the third Saturday of each month and the May and June meals were donated by a local caterer.

St. Joseph High School reschedules golf annual golf outing

The 28th annual St. Joseph High School Spartan Golf Outing has been rescheduled from June 8 to Sept. 18 at Lenape Heights Golf Resort, Manor Township.

Registration will begin in July and information will be posted on the high school website.

The golf scramble has traditionally included a scholarship auction as part of the dinner. Due to the change in date, the high school will auction scholarships during May through silent bids so that scholarships can be used in the fall of 2020.

The following scholarships and amounts are available for bid:

• Carlow University, $1,000

• Duquesne University, $5,000

• La Roche University, $5,000, freshmen only

• Mount Aloysius College, $1,000, St. Joseph High School freshmen only

• Point Park University, $1,000

• St. Francis University, $6,000 to $1,500, for four years, freshmen only

Bids must be for at least half of the value of the scholarship. To submit a silent bid, contact Jane Susa at 724-226-7877 or jsusa@saintjosephhs.com.

Bids will be accepted until 3 p.m. May 29. All bidders will be notified of auction results on June 8.

June 2 and 5: The annual spring cleanup days have been rescheduled to be June 2 and June 5. Pickup on June 2 will be for Laneville, Locust Street, Stewart Street, Hickory Way, Buffalo Street, Washington Street, Franklin Street, Mill Street and Second Street Extension. Plum

Plum Community Center is closed and all events canceled. Meals on Wheels will continue as scheduled. Those over 60 who are food insecure or rely on the daily lunch can continue to pick up Congregant Lunch provided by the county on a take-out basis only. Pick-ups will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
