Golf outing to benefit Leechburg Area Education Foundation

Leechburg Area Education Foundation will host a scramble golf outing July 17 at the Apollo Elks, Kiski Township.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. Cost is $90 per golfer until June 17 and includes picnic buffet dinner, refreshments, hot dogs at the turn and golf with cart. After June 17, the cost is $100.

Help needed to place flags on veterans’ graves

Volunteers are needed to place flags on veterans’ graves Saturday in the Riverview and Apollo Historic cemeteries in Apollo and Fairview Cemetery in Spring Church, Kiski Township

To offer your time, meet at 7:30 a.m. near the Riverview Cemetery office, 717 Highland Ave. for flag distribution and instructions. The project is being coordinated by the Marvin Geer family.


Hound Hike planned for owners and canines

The Pittsburgh-based Laurel Highlands Council of the Boy Scouts of America will host the third annual Hound Hike at 10 a.m. May 22 at Camp Guyasuta, 23rd Street Ext., Sharpsburg.

The trail is about a one-mile hike back to the waterfall. Cost is $20 for a dog and their human, and $10 for each additional dog. There will be vendors, an agility course and free nail trims. All dogs must be on a leash.

Proceeds will benefit local Scouts in the Japeechen District of the Laurel Highlands Council that serves the northeast area of Allegheny County. Reservations are required. For reservations, visit lhcscouting.org/HoundHike or contact Justin Hultman at justin.hultman@scouting.org or 412-325-7976.


Summer food program available for children

The Westmoreland County Food Bank will offer a summer food service program for children over the summer at The Center on Franklin Avenue, 262 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift.

Breakfast and lunch will be served from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays June 21 through Aug. 13 to all children 18 and younger. Grab and go meals will be available.

Music day camp offered June 21-25

Alle-Kiski Music Day Camp will be June 21 to 25 at Center United Methodist Church, 1575 Donnellville Road, Fawn.

This nonprofit camp is for youths, 6 through 18, who will be separated into age groups, and includes chorus, hand bells, Orff, piano, jazz dance, teen ensemble, band, strings, drama and art. A closing concert will be June 25, pending covid-19 restrictions. No experience is required.
