Food distribution set Tuesday in Cheswick

A free drive-thru food distribution will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Feeding the Flock Ministries, 490 Nixon Road, Cheswick.

No registration is required; first come, first served. Each family will receive two boxes of food, each containing one gallon of milk, potatoes, onions, apples, yogurt, chicken and hot dogs. Up to 600 families will be served.

The event is sponsored by Allison Park Church – Deer Lakes, Lower Valley Community Food Bank, Network of Hope Food Bank - Deer Lakes, and Feeding the Flock Ministries.

Dry cat food needed at Animal Protectors

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley, New Kensington, needs donations of bags of dry cat food for its community pet pantry.

All brands and sizes of food are welcome. Bring items to the back door of the shelter at 730 Church St. and ring the doorbell.


Christopher’s Light charity seeking volunteers

Christopher’s Light children’s charity will host an information meeting for those interested in becoming a volunteer at 6 p.m. May 25 in the banquet room of King’s Restaurant, 315 Hyde Park Road, Allegheny Township.

The group’s mission is to provide clothing, support and educational services to children in Westmoreland, Indiana and Armstrong counties. For details, visit christopherslight.com.


Fishing derby open to kids

Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Jefferson will have its free Fishing Derby for kids 14 and younger from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 22 at Saxony Farm Estate, Addy Boy Lane, Jefferson Township.

Participants should bring a fishing rod and lawn chair or blanket. Concordia will provide bait and a limited number of fishing rods. A fishing license is not needed for children younger than 16. Social distancing will be encouraged and disposable masks available.

Hot dogs and refreshments will be available and prizes awarded. Registration is preferred. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
