Local food shuttle expands hours, service areas

The Fresh Food Shuttle sponsored by the New Kensington Downtown Partnership and Wesley Family Services has expanded its hours and now operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for residents of New Kensington, Arnold and Lower Burrell Manor.

Residents can be picked up at their homes and be taken to Golden Dawn, Giant Eagle, Animal Protectors Food Bank and Aldi, all in New Kensington, and Walmart and Aldi, both in Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer.

Riders must be at least 18 years old and can bring up to four bags. Shuttles are smoke-free. For details and a schedule, call 724-895-8270.

Wednesday: Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. The group offers help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics.

Buffalo Township

Today: Sarver Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Christ Community Fellowship Church, 160 Singleton Road. The group is a non-denominational faith-based organization where mothers from pregnancy through those with 12th grade children can find community and connection. Childcare and brunch are provided. Freeport

Today: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will have a yard sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Details: 724-295-3095.

Gilpin

Thursday: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison

Today: Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Very low-cost clothing available for men, women and children. Donations welcome during these hours. Everyone welcome.

Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who have not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Jefferson

Kiski Township  

May 18: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department will host a spring bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 1037 Route 56. Proceeds will benefit the Back to School Carnival planned for Aug. 24. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost: $25, includes six regular games that pay $50; three specials that pay $100; and a $1,000 must-go jackpot. The kitchen will be open. Saturday : Boy Scout Troop 589 is accepting table reservations for a yard sale set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Apollo Spring Church Sportsman Club, 1945 Route 56. Thursday and Friday: West Leechburg Crime Watch will accept donations of gently used clothing, books, housewares and furniture for their upcoming trash to treasure sale from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and noon to 6 p.m. Friday at the firemen’s recreation hall, 1116 Gosser St. No child safety seats, appliances with Freon, televisions, mattresses, box springs or medical equipment will be accepted. The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Winfield
