Free fishing derby scheduled for Northmoreland Park

A free fishing derby will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Northmoreland Park, Allegheny Township.

First and second place trophies will be awarded to longest trout, longest carp and longest other fish of legal size in both adult and youth divisions. A trophy and certificate will also be awarded for the best Catch of the Day in both youth and adult categories. There will be no awards ceremony afterward; winners will be announced Monday on the county parks website and social media. Adult anglers age 16 and older must display a valid Pennsylvania Fishing License.

Four measuring stations will be located around the lake to allow fish to be measured while observing social distancing. Youth participants will receive a door prize at registration.

The event is sponsored by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation, Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League, Somerset Trust Co. A & S Pistol Indoor Pistol Range and Dick’s Sporting Goods.


Motorcycle run to raise money for St. Jude Hospital

The motorcycle ministry at Cabot United Methodist Church will host a motorcycle run Saturday to benefit St. Jude Hospital.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. from the church, 707 Winfield Road, Winfield. Cost is $20 per bike.

Donations are being accepted and can be sent to the church. Put “St. Jude Hospital,” in the memo area of your check. For details, call Rick James at 724-816-3974.


Salvation Army free lunch distribution planned Thursday

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center in Brackenridge offers free grab and go lunches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.


Burrell HS music concert moved into auditorium

Tonight’s concert by the Burrell High School bands and choirs is moved from the stadium into the high school auditorium.

The change was made in response to the relaxing of venue capacities that went into effect this week. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday: The Wheel Good Wednesday food truck event sponsored by the Apollo Events Committee and Apollo Area Historical Society will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the old Stanford lot on Clifford Avenue. East Vandergrift

June 20: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling raffle tickets for whole pig raffle. The winner will receive a whole pig, a 20-cubic foot freezer, a $200 gift card to Locust Grove Country Shop, a $200 gift card to Rukas Beverage and a $100 gift card to the Vandergrift Fox’s Pizza Den. The winning number will be the 7 p.m. June 20 Pa. Daily Pick 3 number. Tickets are $10 for two numbers. Proceeds will benefit the parish operating budget. Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open to anyone in need from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Pull into the center parking lot and food will be placed into your vehicle. Those who are not yet registered should come from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

June 11: St. Joseph High School is conducting a $20,000 Super Raffle. Cost: $100 per ticket. Prizes include a $20,000 grand prize, three $1,000 runner-up prizes. Winner need not be present. Only 500 tickets will be sold. Tickets: 724-226-7877. Proceeds help to keep tuition affordable for students at the school.

Kiski Township

Thursday: Kiski Township Sewage Authority will meet at 6 p.m. in the municipal building, 1222 Old State Road.

Leechburg
