Free shredding event planned Thursday

A free mobile shredding event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the office of Rep. Jill Cooper, Donal Plaza, 105 Pfeffer Road, Suite 5, Export.

Residents can bring two bags or boxes of personal documents for shredding. Books, magazines and items in metal binding materials other than staples cannot be shredded. No businesses please.

The event will also include a food drive to benefit the Westmoreland Food Bank. Optional donations of non-perishable food items that are not in glass containers will be accepted.

Avonmore Library accepting applications for board members and officers

Avonmore Library is looking for new officers and members for its board of directors.

Individuals who are enthusiastic to work as a team to rebuild the library are needed. Interested residents should apply by sending an email to avonmorelibrary15618@gmail.com to send a Facebook message to AvonmoreLibrary by May 30.

Tuesday: The Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation will present a free seminar, “Scooter the Therapy Cat,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the foundation, One Acee Drive. Dr. Betsy Kay Kennon, a volunteer veterinarian with Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley, will discuss her book and the benefits of pet therapy to humans.
