Free fishing derby scheduled for Northmoreland Park

A free fishing derby will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Northmoreland Park, Allegheny Township.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the lakeside deck of the activity center. First and second place trophies and gift certificates will be awarded for longest trout, longest carp and longest other fish of legal size in both adult and youth divisions. A trophy and certificate will also be awarded for the best Catch of the Day in both youth and adult categories. Youth participants will receive a door prize at registration. Adult anglers age 16 and older must display a valid Pennsylvania Fishing License.

The event is sponsored by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation, Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League and Dick’s Sporting Goods.


Free concert planned at Concordia Lutheran Ministries

Concordia at Cabot Haven Apartments will host a free outdoor concert featuring Miss Freddye’s Homecookin’ Band at 4 p.m. Sunday on the Haven II patio, entrance 5, 148 Marwood Road, Jefferson Township.

Registration is encouraged. To register, call Peggy at 724-352-5378 or email PTrettel@concordialm.org. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the Haven I dining room.


Reunions

Saturday: St. James Parish will host a patriotic bingo at the church activities center, 109 Owens View Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m. Admission: $30, includes supplies, food and drinks. Ford City

Saturday: A book sale to benefit Armstrong County Libraries will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ford City Eagles, 420 O’Connor St. Items available will include books, DVDs, games, puzzles and more. Proceeds will benefit Apollo Memorial, Ford City, Kittanning and Worthington-West Franklin libraries.

Freeport

McKean St., Kittanning. French and Indian War re-enactors Proctor’s Militia will be at the museum on Saturday and the 62nd Pa. Volunteer Infantry Living History Family will be there Sunday. A children’s storytime will be at 2 p.m. both days and there will be talks, demonstrations and displays. Free parking available on Vine and McKean streets and behind the museum via the North Grant Avenue entrance.

Leechburg

Saturday: Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church will have its free takeout monthly Pot Love Dinner at noon at the church, 271 Main St. Reservations required by noon today. May 28: Leechburg Public Library is selling chances to win a summer basket that includes a pool bag, four pool towels, four commemorative cups and a Leechburg Pool pass for a family of four. Drawing will be Memorial Day weekend. Tickets: $10, available at the library, 139 Market St.

Lower Burrell

Sunday: The Rivers Church, 200 Freeport Road, will have an outdoor service at 10:45 a.m. followed by lunch and a car cruise at the church. South Buffalo

Sunday: National Alliance on Mental Illness of Butler County will host a free event with author Linda Schmitmeyer at 11 a.m. at Sower’s Chapel, 100 Iron Bridge Road. Schmitmeyer is the author of the book, “Rambler,” that discusses how a family coped with a loved one’s mental health condition. Public welcome.
