Taiko drum group to perform

The Leechburg Jr.-Sr. High School Taiko drum ensemble will present a concert at 7 p.m. Friday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 358 Main St., Leechburg.

Donations will be accepted to support the group.


Fridays on Fifth event set in New Kensington

The New Kensington Fridays on Fifth gathering will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in downtown, rain or shine.

Sponsored by the city recreation commission, businesses will be open and there will be music and food trucks. Bring a chair.

Avonmore   

May 31: A bingo to benefit Avonmore Public Library will be at 1 p.m. at the Avonmore Senior Center, 458 Railroad Ave. Doors open at 11 a.m. and early birds will be at 12:45 p.m. Cost: before Tuesday, $20; at the door, $25. There will be a must-go jackpot game that will start at $200, a 50-50 raffle and silent auction. Food will be sold. Tickets: 724-388-2123.

Brackenridge

Today: Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. The group offers help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics.

Thursday: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

East Vandergrift 

May 31: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church will host a designer purse bash at 1 p.m. in the church social hall, 411 McKinley Ave. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Cost: $35. Tickets: call or text Mary Ann, 724-980-2087, after the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass in the church vestibule or at the parish office in Apollo.

June 13: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a spring cash lottery raffle. There will be two winners and each will receive $1,000 cash and a $100 gift certificate to Naser’s Foods in Apollo. The winning numbers will be the 1:30 and 7 p.m. June 13 Daily Pick 3 numbers. Today: The Blessing Closet at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. June 8: Freeport Area Library Association will host an English tea from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library, 528 Market St. The menu will include finger sandwiches, a variety of teas, scones with clotted cream and jam and pastries. Gilpin   

Thursday: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

June 13: A car show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Lane, as part of the Leechburg 175th anniversary celebration. Check-in will begin at 3 p.m. There will be food, music and a 50-50. Legacy awards will be awarded based on historic Leechburg car dealerships. Cost: $10 in advance; $15, at the gate. Harrison  

Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Today: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

June 14: The Kiskiminetas Watershed Association will sponsor an Anything That Floats Regatta from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Families and groups are encouraged to bring their most creative float-worthy craft and float on the Kiski River from the Leechburg Firehall to the Riverfront Park canoe and kayak launch. Lower Burrell

New Kensington

May 31: The Riverview Relay for Life will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Riverside Park. There will be entertainment, food trucks, a DJ, a visit from the Pirate Parrot, raffles and a 50-50. Tarentum
