Comedy show to celebrate Casino Theater anniversary

The Casino Theater in Vandergrift will celebrate its 125th anniversary with a comedy show featuring Jimmy Krenn and rock comic Mark Eddie at 7:30 p.m. June 21 at the theater.

KDKA radio’s Larry Richert will be the master of ceremonies. A patio party for ticket holders will begin at 6 p.m. on the theater’s new west portico. For reservations and ticket information, visit casinotheatre.org.


Opening day set at LB farmers market

The weekly Lower Burrell Farmer’s Market will open the season from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bon Air School parking lot, 3260 Leechburg Road.

This week there will be 34 regular vendors, over 20 guest vendors, food trucks, free cotton candy and a presentation by Penn State Master Gardener Byrl Johnson.

The market will be open Saturdays through Oct. 4.

May 31: A bingo to benefit Avonmore Public Library will be at 1 p.m. at the Avonmore Senior Center, 458 Railroad Ave. Doors open at 11 a.m. and early birds will be at 12:45 p.m. Cost: before Tuesday, $20; at the door, $25. There will be a must-go jackpot game that will start at $200, a 50-50 raffle and silent auction. Food will be sold. Tickets: 724-388-2123.

Brackenridge

Today: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Today: Bingo will be at 7:15 p.m. at the American Legion, 845 First Ave. Details: 724-994-6030.

East Vandergrift 

May 31: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church will host a designer purse bash at 1 p.m. in the church social hall, 411 McKinley Ave. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Cost: $35. Tickets: call or text Mary Ann, 724-980-2087, after the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass in the church vestibule or at the parish office in Apollo.

June 13: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling tickets for a spring cash lottery raffle. There will be two winners and each will receive $1,000 cash and a $100 gift certificate to Naser’s Foods in Apollo. The winning numbers will be the 1:30 and 7 p.m. June 13 Daily Pick 3 numbers. Freeport

June 8: Freeport Area Library Association will host an English tea from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library, 528 Market St. The menu will include finger sandwiches, a variety of teas, scones with clotted cream and jam and pastries. June 13: A car show will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, 125 Park Lane, as part of the Leechburg 175th anniversary celebration. Check-in will begin at 3 p.m. There will be food, music and a 50-50. Legacy awards will be awarded based on historic Leechburg car dealerships. Cost: $10 in advance; $15, at the gate. Harrison

June 14: The Kiskiminetas Watershed Association will sponsor an Anything That Floats Regatta from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Families and groups are encouraged to bring their most creative float-worthy craft and float on the Kiski River from the Leechburg Firehall to the Riverfront Park canoe and kayak launch. Lower Burrell

Today, Friday and Saturday: St. Margaret Mary Church will sponsor a flea market from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church, 3055 Leechburg Road. Friday will be half price day and customers can fill a grocery cart for $10 on Saturday. Hot dogs, sauerkraut and cabbage & noodles will be sold.

New Kensington

First-time recipients must provide their own ID, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card. Distributions are the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Today: Lower Valley Community Food Bank will distribute food from 1 to 3 p.m. from the rear entrance of the Springdale borough building, 325 School St. Do not arrive before 12:45 p.m. Anyone in need of food who lives in Springdale, Springdale Township, Cheswick, Harmar and the sections of Indiana Township and West Deer with a zip code of 15024 is welcome. Tarentum
