Commemorative book planned by Leechburg Anniversary Committee

The Leechburg 175th Anniversary Committee is selling ads and accepting donations for the 175th anniversary book that will be sold during the celebration planned next year in the borough.

Donations will make printing of the book possible. Minimum donation amount is $10 and all donors will be listed as patrons of the book regardless of the amount contributed. Ads can be placed in memory or in honor of a loved one.

Checks made payable to Leechburg Area Museum & Historical Society can be mailed to P.O. Box 156, Leechburg PA 15656. For more information about placing an ad, call 724-845-8914, stop in at Leechburg Public Library or email lamahs@windstream.net. Deadline is July 31.


Freeport golf outing to benefit library, scholarships

The Freeport College Club will host a golf fundraiser June 22 at Birdsfoot Golf Club, 225 Furnace Run Road, South Buffalo.

The event will be a 4-man scramble and a shotgun start will be at 2 p.m. Cost is $95 per golfer and includes cart, hot dog lunch, drinks and catered dinner. There will be skill games, contests and raffles. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the dinner for $25; 12 and younger, $10.

Today: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Today: Bingo will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the American Legion, 845 First Ave. Details: 724-994-6030.

Gilpin 

Today: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison

Saturday: Community Library of Allegheny Valley will offer a drop-in workshop from noon to 3 p.m. for children in fifth through 12th grade at the library. The project will be to design and paint a mushroom for the new teen section at the library. Details: 724-226-3491.

Jefferson Township 

Today: Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 754 N. Pike Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open. Proceeds benefit post and auxiliary projects.

Leechburg

Saturdays and Wednesdays: Leechburg Area Museum, 118 First St., has reopened for the season. Hours: noon to 3 p.m.

Lower Burrell

Friday: The Adult Day Care Mobile Veterans Program will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road. There will be coffee and conversation, a health education session, games, lunch, entertainment and crafts. Sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs, all veterans are welcome.

Friday: Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave., will host an hour of jigsaw puzzle fun at 1 p.m. Details: 724-339-1021.

New Kensington 

Today: New Kensington Eagles Auxiliary Bingo will be at 7 p.m. at the aerie, 2134 Freeport Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. Sales are from 6 to 6:50 p.m. Cost: $25 for a 12-on package; specials will be available. The kitchen will be open. Public welcome. Details: 724-448-7403.

Parks Township

Friday: Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7 p.m. in the firehall, 1119 Dalmation Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Springdale 

Today: Lower Valley Community Food Bank will distribute food from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday from the rear entrance of the Springdale borough building, 325 School St. Do not arrive before 12:45 p.m. Anyone in need of food who lives in Springdale, Springdale Township, Cheswick, Harmar and the sections of Indiana Township and West Deer with a zip code of 15024 is welcome. New recipients can register Thursday.

Today: The diaper pantry at St. Mark Lutheran Church will distribute free diapers from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church, 600 Pittsburgh St. Advance registration required. First-time recipients must provide their own ID, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card. Distributions are the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Winfield 

Today: The Matrona Family Resource Center at Cabot Church, 707 Winfield Road, will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. New and gently used clothing in sizes preemie through 10/12 will be available, as well as strollers, car seats, toys and more.
