Donations welcome for the Friendship Garden Food Pantry
Donations for the food pantry in the Tarentum Friendship Garden can be dropped off at the pantry on First Avenue or at the side doors to First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock St., Tarentum.
Items needed include cereal, bread, canned vegetables, soup, macaroni and cheese, rice, spaghetti and pasta sauce.
Free help available for families dealing with Alzheimer’s Disease
The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is launching free telephone-based support groups to help families affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.
Led by AFA’s licensed social workers, the groups will help individuals address issues such as not being able to see their loved one in a long-term care setting and added family tensions.
Dates and times include:
• Support group for family members whose loved ones reside in a care setting during COVID-19 – meets from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
• Family Interactions in the time of COVID-19: How to Resolve Conflicts and Stressors – meets from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays.
Registration is required. To register, call the AFA Helpline at 866-232-8484.
Anyone who has questions about caring for someone with Alzheimer’s Disease, but is unable to participate in the groups is welcome to contact the helpline which is staffed seven days per week.
PennDOT releases roadwork schedule
PennDOT crews will be working in the following areas this week, weather permitting:
• Markle Road, Washington Township, pipe replacement
• Stoney Hill Road, Upper Burrell: pipe repairs
• Dutchman’s Road, Lower Burrell: crack sealing
• Crestview Drive, Washington Township: side dozing
• Washington Road, Washington Township: side dozing
• Gilmar Road, Washington Township: side dozing
Motorists should expect delays and possible closures in these areas.

June 2 and 5: The annual spring cleanup days have been rescheduled to be June 2 and June 5. Pickup on June 2 will be for Laneville, Locust Street, Stewart Street, Hickory Way, Buffalo Street, Washington Street, Franklin Street, Mill Street and Second Street Extension.
