St. Joseph musical nominated for Gene Kelly Awards

The St. Joseph High School production of “Tarzan, the Musical” was nominated in six categories at the Gene Kelly for the Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater.

The production was nominated in the following categories: best costume design, best lighting design, best dance ensemble and best crew/technical execution. Bailey Linza was nominated for outstanding student artist for choreography. The production was nominated for best musical at its budget level 1.

Being nominated for best musical entitles the cast to perform one song tonight at the awards ceremony that will be take place on the stage at the Benedum Center, Pittsburgh.


HOPE Center accepting donations

The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center is seeking donations of household items for the clients it serves. The center provides free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence and their families.

Items in need include bath sets containing a shower curtain, bathmat, toothbrush holder and soap dish, underwear, slippers in all sizes and genders; hairbrushes, combs, lotion, lip balm, curling irons and new makeup.

Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the administration office, 500 E. Eighth Ave., Tarentum. If you are ordering online, request delivery to this address. For details, call 724-224-1100 or visit akhopecenter.org.

June 23: New Kensington Eagles Auxiliary will host a super bingo at 2 p.m. at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church social hall, 1601 Kenneth Ave. Doors open at noon. There will be 14 regular games that pay $100; five specials, and a must-go $1,000 jackpot game; silent auction, small games of chance and a 50-50. Snacks, pop and water will be sold. No alcohol permitted. Cost: $40 in advance, includes lunch and bingo package. No seats can be saved. Proceeds will benefit club charities. Through August 31: Kerr Memorial Museum, 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, is featuring an exhibit of elegant fashions of the late 1800s to the Roaring ‘20s at the museum. Parks Township

Springdale Township

June 2: Guardian Angels Parish will host a Corpus Christi Sawdust Carpet celebration from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Our Lady of Victory 1321 Low Grade Road, Harwick. The public is welcome to watch the carpets being made with dyed sawdust. An open house will be from 2 p.m. until time of a 4 p.m. service. Anyone interested in making a carpet should call the parish at 724-226-4900.

Tarentum

Sunday and Tuesday: Alcoholics Anonymous will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. An opportunity for silent prayer will be at 6:30 p.m.
