Tarentum museum to present veterans’ memories of wartime

The Alle-Kiski Historical Society will host a free screening of the film, “Duty, Courage, Honor – SW Pennsylvania Goes to War,” at 2 p.m. Monday at the museum, 224 E. Seventh Ave., Tarentum.

Over 65 veteran video memoirs were recorded, and several will be shown during the program. Masks are required.

Free children’s lunch program planned in Harrison

The Building Block of Natrona, sponsored by the United Methodist Church Union, will provide a USDA summer lunch program for children from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. weekdays June 6 to July 29 at Natrona Community Park.

There will be activities and children do not have to live in Allegheny County. Grab-and-go meals will not be available.

Reservations are encouraged to allow for ordering enough meals but are not required. For reservations, text 724-257-1117 with the number of children attending.

Arnold

Today: Real Life Church, 1825 Freeport Road, will host a family game night at 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Bring your game or play one at the church.

Today: Arnold United Methodist Church, 1801 Leishman Ave., will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatball dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the church. Menu: spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, cake and beverage. Dine in or takeout. Cost: $9; younger than 12, $6; takeout orders, $10.

Today: St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church will have its final pop-up pierogi sale until September from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the church social hall, 1610 Kenneth Ave. Varieties: sauerkraut or potato, $11, per frozen dozen. Assorted varieties of frozen pierogi from St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church, Pittsburgh, will be available for $10 per dozen. Fresh stuffed cabbage will be sold for $3.50 to benefit Ukraine. Quantities are limited. No advance orders will be accepted.

East Franklin

June 7: Harvest Church, 143 Reed Road, will host a free program, “Know How to Keep Your Flock Safe,” from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the church. The program is for members of the clergy, lay people, church staff, ushers, greeters of any faith and emergency services professionals. Doors open at 6 p.m. Reservations recommended. Kittanning

Leechburg 

Today: Leechburg Museum will open for the season from noon to 3 p.m. Hours will be noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Wednesdays.

New Kensington 

Today and Monday: The Community Clothes Closet, 1129 Kenneth Ave., will be closed for Memorial Day weekend. The closet will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4. Items available include clothing for all members of the family, shoes and linens. First-time customers receive 15 free items. Summer clothing donations accepted during business hours.

Parks

Sunday: Parks Township Sportsman’s Club will host a country music jam night from 5 to 8 p.m. at the club, 1111 Shipman Road. Bring your favorite stringed instrument and sing along. Refreshments available. Public welcome. Details: 724-845-2390.

Springdale

June 4: “The Role of Quilts During Slavery,” with Ethel Hayden of Tarentum will be presented at 1 p.m. at Springdale Free Public Library, 331 School St. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-274-9729.

Tarentum

June 10: A free Family Fishing night will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at Deer Lakes Park for families with children age 5 and older with little or no fishing experience. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment will be provided. The fishing license requirement is waived during the event for those 16 and older.
