Holy Martyrs Parish to host Vilija dinner Dec. 7

Holy Martyrs Parish, Tarentum, will host a traditional meatless Vilija Dinner at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the church, 353 W. Ninth Ave.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $16. The menu will include baked fish, pierogies, farina, bobalky, sauerkraut and mushroom soup, oplatki with garlic and honey, stewed prunes walnuts and apples, homemade bread and butter, nut and poppy seed rolls and beverages. There will be entertainment and door prizes.

Produce to People distribution planned in Harrison

Food distribution by Produce to People, sponsored by the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1526 Union Ave., Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Bring a box, durable bags, a laundry basket, a cooler or wheeled cart for the food.

Volunteers are always needed and should plan to arrive after 4 p.m. and park in the lot above Community Market. Individuals, groups and organizations, including high school or college students looking for a project, are welcome. For more information, call the Association of Churches at 724-226-0606.


Banners to honor Brackenridge veterans

Brackenridge Borough is conducting a campaign to place banners throughout the borough to honor residents who served in the Armed Forces.

The double-sided banners will be printed by Gray Signs and measure 24 x 30-inches. Cost is $120 plus tax, and includes photo scanning, banner, bracket, hardware and installation by Brackenridge Borough.

Entries sought for Tarentum-Brackenridge Christmas parade

The Tarentum-Brackenridge Christmas parade will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 in the boroughs.

Parade participants, including music and dance groups, clubs, antique cars and organizations, are being sought for the event which is sponsored by the borough recreation boards.

Burrell Rotary plans pork harvest dinner Nov. 18

Burrell Rotary will host a pork harvest dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at Hill Crest Country Club, Lower Burrell.

The menu will include roasted pork, potato, salad, dessert and beverage. Chicken tenders and fries will be available for $5 for children 10 and younger. Dine in or take out.

Tickets are $10. There will be a cash bar, basket raffle and 50/50 raffle.

Tickets are available at Clearview Federal Credit Union, Leechburg Road, and will be sold at the door.

Tuesday: Springdale Free Public Library is taking orders for pies and pumpkin rolls from The Pie Shoppe in Laughlintown. Pick-up will be Nov. 22. Cost: $9.50 and varieties available include chocolate meringue, coconut meringue, lemon meringue, apple, dutch apple, blackberry, wild blueberry, razzleberry, cherry, peach, raisin, pumpkin and harvest.
