Orders being accepted for AFS citrus fruit sale

Orders are being taken for the annual Highlands High School AFS fruit sale.

The sale will be conducted online, and deliveries will be to customers’ homes or anywhere in the continental U.S. in time for Christmas. Fruit available includes large and small boxes of California navel oranges, ruby red grapefruit, tangelos, clementines, pears, apples and mixed boxes.

Food drive to benefit Rosedale Food Pantry

Lori Hummel of Howard Hanna Real Estate, Oakmont, will host a Thanksgiving food drive through Monday at Rev 22 Powered by Salud Juicery, 527 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Please wear a face mask when you stop in to donate.

Most need items include flour, sugar, canned pumpkin, vegetables, fruit and sweet potatoes, boxed stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, baking spices and pie filling. Collected items will be given to the Rosedale Food Pantry that serves over 700 families in Oakmont, Verona, Plum and Penn Hills. For questions, call Hummel at 412-287-1739.


Leechburg Veterans Day ceremony postponed

The Leechburg Veterans Day ceremony scheduled for noon Wednesday has been postponed due to the expected inclement weather.

The ceremony will be at noon Thursday at Freedom Square along Market Street. The Rev. Gary Lyon will be the speaker.


Salvation Army offers free lunches

The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center in Brackenridge offers free grab and go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays in parking lot at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave.


Food collection continues at Vandergrift VFW

Vandergrift Veterans of Foreign Wars is collecting non-perishable food items for local veterans in need.

A drop-off box is located behind the outer doors of the VFW, 141-143 Sumner Ave.

Any veteran in need should call the post at 724-568-1427 from noon to 10 p.m. any day of the week to arrange a pickup. Food not distributed by the middle of November will be taken to the Mechling/Shakely Veterans Center.

Distributions will be in the East Fourth Avenue parking lot beside Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St. No registration is required for either event.

West Deer
