HOPE Center seeks support for Christmas program

The HOPE Center is seeking support for its annual Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program to benefit HOPE Center families.

This program is an opportunity for individuals, families, community groups, businesses, churches, schools, or anyone looking to do something for those in need and give back to their community and is easy, convenient, and designed to meet any budget. Items can be returned to the HOPE Center or arrangements can be made for pick up.

If you are interested in “adopting a family” to buy Christmas items for this year, call the administrative office at 724-224-1100 to request a family size and wish list.


Apollo Christmas parade seeking participants

The Apollo Citizens Christmas Parade and Light-up Night will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the borough.

Participants, including floats, performers and music groups, are welcome to take part. The theme will be, “Holiday Lights.”

Apollo-Ridge Area Food Bank seeks donations

November is Turkey Month at Apollo-Ridge Area Food Bank.

The food bank is seeking donations to help provide grocery gift certificates for Christmas dinner for Apollo-area families in need.

Donations of any amount are appreciated. If you would like to help, send donations to: Turkey Fund, Apollo-Ridge Area Food Bank, c/o Deborah Nicholas, P.O. Box 125, Spring Church PA 15686-0125.


Groups sought to march in New Kensington Christmas parade

Participants are needed for the New Kensington Christmas parade scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 7 in downtown New Kensington.

Fire departments, marching groups, non-profits and organizations are welcome.

A touch-a-truck event will be after the parade. Any business that uses trucks, back hoes or lifts is welcome to take part. Donations of cases of water for emergency responders or a stuffed animal or doll is the cost to participate.

Lower Burrell

Monday: Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the post, Wildlife Lodge Road. Dues for 2019-20 are now payable. Members who want their membership and door cards mailed should enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Monday: Burrell Rotary will host a pork harvest dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hill Crest Country Club. Menu: roasted pork, potato, salad, dessert and beverage. Chicken tenders and fries will be available for $5 for children 10 and younger. Dine in or take out. There will be a cash bar, basket raffle and 50/50 raffle. Tickets: $10, available at Clearview Federal Credit Union, Leechburg Road, and at the door.

New Kensington

Apollo Area CROP Walk Coordinator Diane Baer thanks all who participated in and donated to the annual CROP Walk held Oct. 6 at Roaring Run Trail.

The event was sponsored by Apollo area churches and collected $3,502, which was $757 more than last year. Seventy-five percent of money raised will be donated to Church World Service, and 25 percent will be given to the Apollo-Ridge Area Food Bank.
