Used paperback books needed for troops, veterans

Last Word Bookstore, Lower Burrell, is participating in the Operation Paperback book drive that collects gently used paperback books and sends them to American troops overseas, and veterans and military families in the United States.

Books most requested include action, bestsellers, biographies, memoirs, fantasy, history, horror, mysteries, science fiction and true crime. Movies and video games are also requested. No romance or religious books, or textbooks please. Monetary donations are welcome to defray shipping costs.

Books will be accepted from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the store, 2909 Leechburg Road. Volunteers are also needed to collect, pack and ship the books. For details, call Karen at 724-980-1242.

The local history department at Community Library of Allegheny Valley, 1522 Broadview Blvd., Harrison, offers the use of the MyHeritage Research Database that includes billions of historical documents for nearly 50 countries, historical photographs, public records, indexes and more.
