Volunteers needed for free tax service
AARP Tax Aide is recruiting volunteers for the upcoming tax preparation season.
Tax Aide volunteers assist taxpayers with filing their federal, state and local taxes at no charge. Sites are located at senior centers, libraries, churches and the officers of state representatives in the Alle-Kiski Valley, such as New Kensington, Lower Burrell, Brackenridge, Vandergrift, Apollo and Springdale.
Training will be in December at St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell. If you think you might be interested in becoming a volunteer, call Diana Smith at 412-216-6937 or email dimariesmith@comcast.net.
Shopping event to benefit Animal Protectors
The Hole in the Wall Gallery, Lower Burrell, will host a fundraising shopping event to benefit Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 2764 Leechburg Road.
Twenty percent of purchases made Saturday will be donated to Animal Protectors. Some exclusions may apply.
Tarentum-Brackenridge Christmas parade to kick off holiday season
The Tarentum-Brackenridge Christmas parade will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tarentum.
Line up will be at noon under the Tarentum Bridge. An information booth will be at First and Ross streets. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated float or fire truck.
There will be activities afterward at the Brackenridge American Legion, 845 First Ave., including opportunities to visit with Santa, a toy giveaway, face painting, crafts, caricatures and pony rides. The community choir will sing at 3 p.m. and there will be a puppet show at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will feature the Charlie Reimer Band from 8 to 11 p.m. in the post. Members and three guests welcome.
November and December: The mixed media works of artist Peter Cehily will be on exhibit during regular hours at Peoples Library, 3052 Wachter Ave.
Oakmont
Saturday: Oakmont United Methodist Church, 419 Maryland Ave., will have a Christmas bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. There will be crafts, a bake sale, lunch and soft caramels. West Deer
