All-star volleyball games to feature local high school players

The We Serve First Foundation will host the We Serve First All-Star Volleyball Classic game Dec. 10 at Kiski Area High School gymnasium, Allegheny Township.

The game will highlight the skills of 38 high school seniors who play volleyball at 19 Alle-Kiski area schools. Doors open at 3 p.m. and player and coach introductions will be at 3:30 p.m. Games will begin at 4:15 p.m.

Tickets are $5; students, $3; and younger than 5, free. For tickets, call 724-493-5945 or at the door. Proceeds will benefit the We Serve First Foundation founded in memory of the late Ellen Toy who was a high school and club volleyball coach. The foundation will provide scholarships to high school volleyball players to play on club teams or attend volleyball camps.


Toy and gift collection to benefit local children

Kiski Township Police and Fire Department along with the Apollo Elks and Spring Church Fox’s Pizza are collecting donations of unwrapped toys, clothing and gift cards for local children.

Drop off times and locations are: any time at the public entrance of the police department; 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the firehall, 1037 Route 56; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Fox’s Pizza, 3528 Route 156; and 3 to 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 151 Elks Lodge Road.

Contributions of wrapping paper, tape, bows, bags and name tags are welcome. Deadline to donate is Dec. 10. For details, call Dianne at 412-601-1782.

Arnold

Friday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., is accepting orders for its pierogi sale. Varieties: potato or sauerkraut. Pickup: 12:30 to 4 p.m. Fridays in the church social hall. Cost: $12 per dozen. Orders: 724-339-9257, 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Brackenridge

Wednesday: Al-Anon will meet at 8 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. The group offers help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics.

Freeport

Wednesday: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from noon to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of fall and winter clothing, shoes and boots welcome. Donations must be laundered and free from pet hair. Harrison

Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Details and alternate times: 724-226-0606, ext. 10.

Wednesday: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean fall and winter clothing in all sizes is needed. Masks optional. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Lower Burrell

Wednesday: The Moose will have a Thanksgiving Eve party from 8 p.m. to midnight at the lodge, 499 Reimer St., to kick off its holiday food drive for the Westmoreland County Food Bank. DJ Lisa will entertain and there will be games. Bring a non-perishable food item to be entered into a basket raffle. Members and guests welcome.

Oakmont

Tuesdays: Taking Pounds Off Sensibly (TOPS) meets at 6 p.m. at Oakmont United Methodist Church, 419 Maryland Ave. Monthly dues: $5; first meeting is free. Details: vrevilla@pointpark.edu.

Springdale
