Santa needs help: You can ‘adopt’ senior for Christmas

Concordia Lutheran Ministries has again opened its Adopt-A-Resident Program to the community.

Individuals, businesses or congregations may call the facility of their choice to “adopt” a resident and give him or her Christmas gifts. Gift suggestions include a sweat suit, door wreath, stamps and stationery, digital clocks with large numbers, sugar-free candy, slippers and slipper socks and throws or blankets.

• Concordia at Cabot, Brandy Muth, 724-352-1571 ext. 8241 (skilled nursing residents) or Jaime White, ext. 8302 (personal care residents), deadline for gifts, Dec. 16.

• Concordia of Fox Chapel, Kelly Ellena, 412-767-5808, deadline for gifts, Dec. 16.

• Concordia at Ridgewood Place, Plum, Cheryl Sopcak, 412-798-1855, deadline for gifts, Dec. 10.


Banners to honor veterans in West Deer

West Deer Township is accepting orders for banners to honor township residents who served in the Armed Forces.

The double-sided banners will be printed by Gray Signs and measure 24 x 30-inches. Cost is $128.40 and includes tax.

Holy Martyrs Parish to host Vilija dinner Dec. 7

Holy Martyrs Parish, Tarentum, will host a traditional Vilija Dinner at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the church, 353 W. Ninth Ave.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $16. The menu will include baked fish, pierogies, farina, bobalky, sauerkraut and mushroom soup, oplatki with garlic and honey, stewed prunes walnuts and apples, homemade bread and butter, nut and poppy seed rolls and beverages. There will be entertainment and door prizes.

Sunday: A spaghetti dinner will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at the White Star Club, 401 Shuster Drive. Homemade meatballs available for an extra charge. Dine in or take out. Take-out orders: 724-295-2656

Leechburg

Sunday: The Elks will host a vendor bingo at 1 p.m. at the lodge, 228 Market St. Tickets: $20, include 10 games with prizes supplied by vendors and a $250 cash jackpot game. The kitchen will be open and there will be a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, small games of chance and vendor shopping. Players must be at least 18 years old.

Lower Burrell

Sunday: A spaghetti dinner will be served from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Moose, 499 Reimer St. Menu: spaghetti, salad, roll and coffee. Dine in or take out. Cost: $7; takeouts, $7.50. Details: 724-335-4131

North Apollo

Sunday: All you can eat breakfast buffet will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon at North Apollo Fire Hall, 311 16th St. Cost; $9; 12 and younger, $5. Dine in or take out. Details: 724-478-4260
