Annual holiday celebration planned Saturday in Leechburg

The Luminate Leechburg celebration will be Saturday on Market Street.

The community tree lighting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the garden across the street from the Twisted Thistle Restaurant. Toy donations will be accepted for Toys for Alle-Kiski Kids.

A family friendly scavenger hunt will begin and end at Leechburg Public Library on Market St. Stop in at the library from noon to 4 p.m. to pick up a book bag to participate. A house decorating contest will be conducted through Dec. 12.


Annual West Deer toy drive underway

West Deer Police Department is sponsoring its 24rd annual Toys for Children drive to benefit children age 1 to 14 living in low-income households in the Deer Lakes School District.

New toys can be dropped off from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 8 at the police department, 109 East Union Road. Monetary donations can be sent to West Deer Police Special Programs, 109 East Union Road, Cheswick PA 15024. Money will be used to purchase additional toys, winter clothing and wrapping paper supplies.

Knead Community Café welcomes donations and sponsorships

Knead Community Café in New Kensington offers free grab-and-go meals on Thursdays to members of the community, regardless of ability to pay.

About 230 meals are served weekly at a cost of $2.50 per meal. Full meal sponsorships are available at $450 per week. Smaller donations are always welcome.

Any business, organization, church or individual interested in supporting the mission of the café should contact Marcie at 878-302-3270.


Driver license, photo centers closed for Thanksgiving holiday

PennDOT driver license and photo centers will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.

Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services online at dmv.pa.gov.

Freeport 

Wednesday: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from noon to 3 p.m. at the church. Winter clothing is available. Cash only. Donations must be laundered. Details: 724-295-2476

Harrison

Wednesday: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open to anyone in need from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Pull into the center parking lot and food will be placed into your vehicle. Senior boxes are now being distributed Wednesdays instead of Thursdays. Those who are not yet registered should come after 3 p.m. Proof of income is no longer required. Donations: avaoc.org/donate/financial-support/

Leechburg

Dec. 13: Leechburg Elks will have a vendor bingo at 1 p.m. at the lodge, 228 Market St. Doors open at noon. Admission: $20, includes 11 games with vendor prizes and one $250 must-go jackpot game. Food and beverages will be sold and there will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and small games of chance. Players must be at least 18 years old. Tarentum

Today: Allegheny Valley Joint Sanitation Authority will conduct the committee meeting at 7 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at the office, 320 Fourth Ave.

Wednesday: Tarentum Elks will host bingo at 7 p.m. at the lodge, 219 E. Sixth Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open.

Wednesdays: BridgePoint Church, 400 E. Ninth Ave., will host a parent-led learning pod from 1 to 4 p.m. in the church hall located on the lower level. Free high-speed internet, meals and access to the church children’s library will be provided. Use the Corbet Street entrance.

All activities at Burtner House are canceled through the end of the year.

Lower Burrell

The St. Margaret Mary Parish nut and apricot roll sale is canceled.

Saxonburg

The annual Saxonburg Holiday Parade sponsored by the Saxonburg Area Business Association is canceled.

Tarentum

The annual joint Christmas Parade with Brackenridge is canceled.

Vandergrift

Christopher’s Light children’s charity has canceled the annual children’s Christmas party.
