HOPE Center seeks support for program

The HOPE Center is seeking support for its annual Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program to benefit HOPE Center families.

This program is recommended for individuals, families, community groups, businesses, churches, schools, or anyone looking to do something for those in need and give back to their community and is easy, convenient, and designed to meet any budget. Items can be returned to the HOPE Center or arrangements can be made for pick up.

If you are interested in “adopting a family” to buy Christmas items for this year, contact Shelley at 724-224-1100 or shelleyr@akhopecenter.org to request a family size and wish list.

Benefit spaghetti dinner planned

A takeout spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit the infant son of A.J. and Amanda McNeal will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Creekside Diner, 4707 Route 66, Washington Township.

The menu will include spaghetti with two homemade meatballs, tossed salad with Italian dressing, homemade Italian bread and a piece of cake. Cost is $10. There will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Tickets for the silent auction are on sale now.

The fundraiser will help with the baby’s medical expenses. For tickets, stop in at the diner.

Contributions needed for homeless veterans’ project

Local veterans’ charity Five Forces is collecting personal items for the Homeless Heroes Stocking Project.

The Homeless Heroes Stocking Project works with the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania to supply stockings for Christmas to more than 2,500 homeless veterans in our area.

Items needed include full-size shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste; wash cloths, soap, plastic toothbrush and soap holders, socks, gloves and $10 gift cards to Walmart or Giant Eagle. Collection boxes are located at Elevate Sport and Spine Center, 2878 Freeport Road, Harrison; and Barefoot Bar and Grill, 614 Schenley Road, Gilpin.

UPMC to host free online presentation on shoulder and knee pain

UPMC will offer, “Get Back Into the Game,” a live virtual presentation about shoulder and knee pain at 6 p.m. Dec. 1.

Find ways to get moving again and learn about the latest treatment options for shoulder instability and knee injuries. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Hughes will be the speaker.

Dec. 21: Kiski Township Volunteer Fire Department is accepting orders for pies, nut logs and pumpkin rolls from The Pie Shoppe in Laughlintown. Varieties: chocolate meringue, coconut meringue, lemon meringue, apple, dutch apple, blackberry, wild blueberry, razzleberry, cherry, peach, raisin, and pumpkin and pumpkin rolls, all $9.50; nut logs and pecan pies, $12. Saturday: The New Kensington Community Clothes Closet will be closed for Thanksgiving weekend.

Tarentum

Saturday: Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will have a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Cost: $1 per bag, all books, mix and match. Proceeds benefit local missions. The church Clothing Closet will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details: 724-224-9220
