Annual Christmas for Vets event planned Dec. 5

Five Forces will host its fifth annual Christmas for Veterans event Dec. 5 at the School House Hall, 171 Thorn St., Oklahoma Borough.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6. There will be a DJ, raffles and merchandise available to purchase.

All veterans and current members of the military are welcome. Veterans must show DD214 paperwork, current military ID or proper discharge paperwork. Tickets are free for veterans and current military. Guest tickets are $20 each, plus drinks.

Highway cleanup in Bell looking for volunteers

The Washington Bell Lions Club will conduct a highway clean-up event at 9 a.m. Saturday on Route 380 near the Beaver Run Dam in Bell Township.

Volunteers are welcome should meet at 9 a.m. at Beaver Run Dam. Those attending are asked to follow covid-19 prevention measures.


Drive-thru food distribution set for Tuesday at Pittsburgh Mills

Allegheny Valley Association of Churches and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host a drive-thru food distribution for anyone in need from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the rear parking lot near Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, Frazer. No cars are permitted to arrive before 4 p.m.

Reservations are required to ensure enough food is available. To make a reservation, visit pittsburghfoodbank.org/drive-up or call 412-460-3663, ext. 655. Have your license plate number of the car you will be in at the event, name, email, zip code, date of birth and current weekly income on hand. Bring your confirmation page or email for your reservation to the event.

Individuals must remain in their vehicle except to use the provided outdoor restrooms. After pulling up to the distribution area, recipients should put their car in park and unlock the trunk or backseat for the food the be loaded.

Saturday: The ClothesLine ministry at Bethesda Lutheran Church will not accept donations until further notice. No indoor monthly events will be held until covid-19 conditions improve. The Nov. 14 event will be outdoors, weather permitting, and will be the final event until after winter.

Nov. 18: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary is collecting non-perishable food for the Salvation Army through Nov. 18 at the post, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road. A donation container is in the post canteen.

New Kensington

Monday through Friday: Members of the Eagles will celebrate the club anniversary at the aerie, 2134 Freeport Road. Activities will include free food Monday and Tuesday. A free spaghetti dinner for members and their families will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday. A Monte Carlo night with free fish sandwiches will be Friday.
