The 2020 holiday season will be like no other we have ever seen. Non-profit and community groups are reimagining how to have fundraisers and free events while keeping the public safe from the virus.

Toys for Tots sign-ups scheduled
Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots served by the Allegheny Valley Detachment will have sign-ups from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 20 in Springdale Marine Corps League Hall, 838 Pittsburgh St., for children 12 and younger.
The Allegheny Valley Detachment serves children in northeastern Allegheny, western Westmoreland and Armstrong counties. Online registration is encouraged at Tarentum-pa.toysfortots.org through Nov. 23.
Parents can go to their assistance webpage and look under, “My Compass Account,” and print out the benefit page. Bring a valid form of photo identification and the printed sheet. Otherwise parents must bring ID, verified proof of public assistance; proof of residency, proof of legal guardianship if other than parent; and children’s birth certificates.
The person signing up a child must provide valid identification and will be the only one authorized to pick up toys. Due to the pandemic, please do not bring children to the sign up.
To make a monetary donation, send a check payable to Toys for Tots to Allegheny Valley MCL 825, 838 Pittsburgh St., Springdale PA 15144.
Knead Community Café welcomes donations and sponsorships
Knead Community Café in New Kensington offers free grab-and-go meals on Thursdays to members of the community, regardless of ability to pay.
About 230 meals are served weekly at a cost of $2.50 per meal. Full meal sponsorships are available at $450 per week. Smaller donations are always welcome.
Any business, organization, church or individual interested in supporting the mission of the café should contact Marcie at 878-302-3270.
Driver license, photo centers closed for Veterans Day
PennDOT driver license and photo centers will be closed Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day.
Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services online at dmv.pa.gov. There are no additional fees for using online services.
Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church accepting donations
The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, is accepting donations of clothing for men, women and children, as well as purses, shoes and belts.
Donations will be accepted during Closet operating hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the church, 305 Allegheny St., and by appointment.
