Highlands High School to celebrate homecoming

The annual Highlands High School Homecoming festivities will begin Friday at 6 p.m. with a parade in Natrona Heights, Harrison.

The parade will begin at the high school and circle around nearby neighborhoods. The district will also observe a Pink Out event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Those attending are urged to wear a pink shirt.

The Gridiron Club will sponsor food trucks outside Golden Rams Stadium from 4 to 8 p.m. in the parking area near the middle school gymnasium. The football game versus Armstrong High School will kick off at 7 p.m.

5K run and 1-mile walk to benefit Roaring Run Watershed Association

The Roaring Run Watershed Association Howl at the Moon 5K run and 1-mile Fun Walk will be Oct. 23 at Roaring Run Trail, Kiski Township.

Check-in will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the race starts at 7 p.m. Costumes are encouraged. Bring a light. Entry fees are: 5K run, $25 in advance, $30 on race day; 1-mile Fun Walk, $20 in advance, $25 on race day.

Genealogy program planned at Harrison library

Community Library of Allegheny Valley in Harrison will sponsor a free program, “Discovering Family Roots,” with Pam Israel at 1 p.m. Friday at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd, Natrona Heights.

The event will be also available online via Zoom.us. The topic will be, “Sifting and Sorting - the Hints Buried in Family Boxes and Chests.”
