Kiski Valley museums to host open house tour Sunday

Four Kiski Valley museums will host a free open house tour on Sunday. Events will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Apollo Museum and Historical Society, Hyde Park Museum and Historical Society, Leechburg Museum and Historical Society and Victorian Vandergrift Museum and Historical Society.

Locations and exhibits will include:

• Apollo, 317 N. Second St. - vintage toy exhibit

• Hyde Park, Main Street – display about convicted murderer Martha Grinder

• Leechburg, 118 First St. – museum renovation and never-displayed items

• Vandergrift, 184 Sherman Ave. - memorabilia of former Kiski Area High School football coach Frank Morea. There will be a clearance sale in museum gift shop.

Free shuttle service donated by Byers Taxi Service will be available from all museums. Start your tour at any location. Pick-ups will be on the hour at the Leechburg and Vandergrift museums and on the half hour at Hyde Park and Apollo high rise museums. For information, call 724-568-1990.

Kiski Area HS Band earns honors

Congratulations to the Kiski Area High School Marching Band for winning first place honors at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship last weekend in Maryland.

The band placed first in all three categories, Outstanding Music Performance, Outstanding Visual Performance and Outstanding General Effect.
