Fall festival, safety day planned in New Kensington

The New Kensington Fall Festival and annual Matt Sobecki Fire Safety Day will be Saturday in the downtown area of the city.

There will be a farmers market and artisan vendors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a pumpkin patch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children can stop in at the pumpkin patch to get a trick-or-treat bag to use at local businesses.

The third annual Matt Sobecki Fire Safety Day will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 800 block of Barnes Street. Sponsored by the New Kensington Volunteer Fire Department, there will be food, drinks a touch-a-truck, fire extinguisher education and fire safety seminars.


EV Fall Festival to be in Kiskiminetas River Park

The East Vandergrift Riverside Fall Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the borough’s Kiskiminetas River Park, 223 Elm St. There will be food, vendors, face painting, a bounce house, corn hole tournament and games. Little Miss Fall Princess will be crowned. The event is sponsored by the East Vandergrift Community Foundation.


Free program scheduled about cancer screenings and care

Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute will host a free presentation about cancer screenings and preventative care at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Alle-Kiski Valley Historical Society and Museum, 224 E. Seventh Ave., Tarentum.

Speakers will discuss the free cancer screenings offered at AHN Cancer Institute locations and the AHN Cancer Navigation Team that includes registered nurses, clinical social workers, registered dieticians, financial counselors and community representatives who work with cancer patients. A question-and-answer session will be afterward. A private room will be available with a staff member to answer personal questions.


Tarentum Boo Festival set in Riverview Memorial Park

The Tarentum Recreation Board will sponsor the annual Halloween Boo Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Riverview Memorial Park, First Avenue.

There will be food, a craft fair, sidewalk chalk contest, hayrides, games, a face painter, obstacle course and a balloon artist.
