Leechburg Area Food Bank seeks volunteers

Leechburg Area Food Bank is looking for volunteers to pack and carry food to cars on the monthly distribution day.

A driver with a van or truck with a closed bed is needed to go to Armstrong County Community Action four times per year. The food bank will reimburse money for gasoline.

Participants sought for annual CROP walk

Apollo Area Churches will sponsor the area CROP Walk at 2 p.m. Sunday on the Roaring Run Trail, Kiski Township

Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the trail. Walkers and sponsors are needed for the benefit to help end world hunger.

If you have any questions or for information, contact coordinator Diane Baer at 724-478-1786. In 2019, over $800 from the proceeds was donated back to the Apollo-Ridge Food Bank.

Deer Lakes High School Student Council seeks alumni photos

Deer Lakes High School Student Council plans to release a video to celebrate this year’s homecoming.

Alumni are encouraged to submit photos of their homecomings and videos discussing where they are now, what they have accomplished and their favorite high school memories. Former teachers are welcome to send in videos updating their activities.

Submissions should be sent to hsstuco@deerlakes.net by Oct. 15.

Fall clean-up day planned Saturday in Arnold

A fall clean-up day for residents of Arnold will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Arnold city garage, Drey Street and Third Avenue.

Items that will not be accepted include paint, propane, hazardous materials, building materials, shingles, oils, chemicals, batteries and Freon appliances. Tires will be accepted for $2 each or up. Televisions will be accepted for a donation, cash only.

Loads are limited at the city’s discretion. Identification will be required. For details, call 724-337-4441, option 1, ext. 1.

Quilt group accepting fabric donations

The Parish Piecers quilt group of Holy Martyrs Parish, Tarentum, is accepting fabric donations to make quilts for the homeless.

Religion Digest

Animal Protectors to host pet blessing service

A pet blessing service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday on the front lawn of the new location of Animal Protectors, 730 Church St., New Kensington.

The Rev. Tim Sweigart, pastor of Logans Ferry Presbyterian Church, New Kensington, will preside. Small pets should be in a carrier and dogs must be on a non-retractable leash.

Churches plan virtual ministry for children

Sunday Night Live, an interactive Christian education ministry for children in prekindergarten through sixth grade will be at 6 p.m. the first Sunday of each month beginning Sunday on Zoom.us.

Sponsored by First Lutheran and Hebron Lutheran churches, both in Leechburg and Bethesda Lutheran Church, Lower Burrell, there will be Bible stories, music, crafts and more. The Sunday event will include a blessing of animals and everyone is encouraged to dress up like an animal.

Pet blessing services planned Saturday at St. Barnabas Church

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Brackenridge, will offer a blessing of pets from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the church lawn, 989 Morgan St.

Free hot dogs will be served. A Blessing of the Animals service will be at 5 p.m. will be followed by the regular Eucharist service at 5:30 p.m., both outside. Pets are welcome to remain and attend the Eucharist service.

East Suburban Artists League

East Suburban Artists League resumed monthly meetings in September online at Zoom.us.

Becky Sciullo of Artisan Advantage was the featured speaker at the Sept. 3 meeting. Her program was, “Building a Strategic Web Presence for Artists.” A recording of the presentation can be viewed on the club website, ESALart.org.
