German food to be featured at Concordia Oktoberfest

Concordia Lutheran Ministries’ annual Oktoberfest will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Haven I, 112 Marwood Road, Jefferson.

A German-themed menu will be offered including Bavarian pork roast, kielbasa and sauerkraut, bratwurst, sauerbraten, Bavarian pretzels, apple cider and more. Cash and checks will be accepted. Children 12 and younger receive a free food voucher and there will be free children’s activities. Entertainment will be by the Mikey Dee Polka Band from 4 to 7:30 p.m. A fireworks display will end the day at 7:45 p.m.

Coat drive underway in Highlands School District

The sixth annual Winter-Ready Rams coat drive to benefit children in the Highlands School District will continue through Oct. 24.

New and gently-used children’s coats can be dropped off in bins outside the home concession stand during the home varsity and junior varsity football games and at bins at 200 Banbury Lane, 69 Spruce St., and 233 Chinkapin Drive, all in Harrison; and 309 Bridge St., Tarentum. Please ship online donations to the 200 Banbury Lane address.

Coats will be available at the Nov. 11 parent/teacher conferences at the schools.

Parks Township Kidspalooza to offer tons of fun

Parks Township Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor its annual Kidspalooza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the firehall, 1119 Dalmatian Drive.

There will be a bouncy house, craft table, balloon clowns, a lottery tree, indoor vendors and auctions and a fire prevention program at 1 p.m. A petting zoo will be from noon to 2 p.m. Special meal deals will be offered in the kitchen.

Saturday: St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 989 Morgan St., will offer Blessings of the Animals from noon to 2 p.m. outside of the church. Free hot dogs, “Father Frank’s Franks” will be served in honor of former pastor, the late Rev. Frank Yesko.
