Annual Red Kettle 5K and Fun Run planned Nov. 14

Allegheny Valley Salvation Army Corps and Community Center will sponsor a Red Kettle 5K Run and Walk Nov. 14 at the center, 917 Brackenridge Ave., Brackenridge.

Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. and a Kids 1-Mile Fun Run will be at 8:30 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m. A to-go pancake breakfast for all participants will be at 9:30 a.m.

Entry fee is $20 for the 5K Run/Walk and $15 for the Kids 1-Mile Fun Run if paid by Oct. 30. Fees increase $5 each after that date. Registration deadline to receive a race t-shirt is Oct. 30.

Donations welcome for the Friendship Garden Food Pantry

Donations for the food pantry in the Tarentum Friendship Garden can be dropped off at the pantry on First Avenue or at the side doors to First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock St., Tarentum.

Items needed include cereal, bread, canned vegetables, soup, macaroni and cheese, rice, spaghetti and pasta sauce.


Generations House of Worship to host trunk-or-treat

Generations House of Worship, Brackenridge, will host a trunk or treat from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the church, 1160 Parkside Drive.

Treats will be distributed from decorated cars and there will be a big screen movie. Bring a chair.


Burtner House Restoration Society selling commemorative Christmas ornaments

Burtner House Restoration Society is taking orders for handcrafted Christmas tree ornaments to celebrate the 200th birthday of the homestead in Harrison.

Ornaments are brass with a gold finish and have an image of the house and Christmas tree with a bicentennial banner. Cost is $22 each plus $4.95 shipping and handling.

Pasta dinner to benefit Children’s Free Care Fund

The Allegheny and Kiski Valley offices of Howard Hanna along with Villa Ballanca Restaurant will host a drive-thru pasta dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the restaurant, 2740 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, to benefit the annual Children’s Free Care Fund.
