Mary Queen of Apostles School to honor veterans

Mary Queen of Apostles School, New Kensington, will host a salute to veterans program Nov. 7 in the school cafeteria, 110 Elmtree Road.

The school will honor all family members and friends who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. Veterans will eat a pasta lunch with students in fourth through eighth grade at 12:30 p.m. and a patriotic music program will be at 1:30 p.m. Veterans and one guest are welcome.

Peoples Library seeks adult tutors

Peoples Library in New Kensington is seeking adult tutors for its afterschool program.

Adult tutors work one-on-one with at-risk students from the New Kensington-Arnold School District. Tutoring is provided from 4 to 5:20 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the New Kensington library, 880 Barnes St. They provide homework help and focus on basic reading and math skills.

Super bingo planned Nov. 2 at Tarentum Eagles

Tarentum Eagles Auxiliary will host a super bingo with a $1,000 must-go jackpot at 1 p.m. Nov. 2 at the aerie, 204 Wood St., Tarentum.

Doors open at 11 a.m. Only 80 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $30, and include a meal. There will be a cash bar and no outside beverages or snacks are permitted. Players must be at least 18 years old.

Chamber of Commerce to host annual trivia competition

Alle-Kiski Strong Chamber Trivia Night will begin at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at Pittsburgh Mills Mall, room 528, Frazer.

Teams will be made up of six to eight members. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Tickets are $20 and include a dinner buffet by Garda’s Restaurant and beverages. BYOB beer and wine. Reservations are required. Those attending must be at least 21 years old.

Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary to hold sale

Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host a Mafia Mare’s Moda sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the hospital lobby, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights.

Merchandise will include ornaments, wreaths, jewelry, scarves and lap blankets. Cash only will be accepted. Proceeds benefit auxiliary-sponsored hospital projects.

Animal shelter offers discounts during ‘Dogtober’

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley is celebrating Dogtober with discounted adoption fees on adult dogs at the shelter, 533 Linden Ave., New Kensington.

Purse gala to benefit children's camp

The sixth annual Purse Gala to benefit Camp Erin Pittsburgh will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the PNC Park Hyundai Club, Pittsburgh.

Tickets are $100 and include a buffet dinner. Twenty designer bags will be auctioned and there will be a silent auction.

A ministry of Concordia Good Samaritan Hospice, Camp Erin Pittsburgh hosts 100 children who are grieving the death of someone close to them for one weekend each June.

Health foundation sponsors workshop

Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation will sponsor a free workshop about locally produced foods, “Fast, Fresh and Local: Whole Foods Event” from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 6 at the foundation, One Acee Drive, Natrona Heights, Harrison.

Local farms, Ritter Farms, Blackberry Meadows Farm and Gabriel’s Garden, will make a presentation about their food production techniques and provide free samples of their products.
