Used paper-back books needed for troops, veterans
Last Word Bookstore, Lower Burrell, is participating in the Operation Paperback Book Drive that collects gently used paperback books and sends them to American troops overseas, and veterans and military families in the United States.
Books most requested include action, bestsellers, biographies, memoirs, fantasy, history, horror, mysteries, science fiction and true crime. Movies and video games are also requested. No romance or religious books, or textbooks please. Monetary donations are welcome to defray shipping costs.
Books will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 and noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 4 at the store, 2909 Leechburg Road.
Volunteers are also needed to collect, pack and ship the books. For details, call Karen at 724-980-1242.

HOPE Center accepting donations
The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center is seeking donations for the clients it serves. The center provides free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Items in need include new socks, underwear, slippers and pajamas in all adult and children’s sizes.
