Veterans Day information sought

Lower Burrell changes trick-or-treat day and time

Due to the expected inclement weather, Lower Burrell has rescheduled trick-or-treat in the city to be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.


Salvation Army accepting registrations for toy distribution

Allegheny Valley Salvation Army is accepting registrations for its children’s Christmas toy distribution.

Children must be 13 or younger and live in the following zip codes, 15006., 15014. 15030, 15032, 15049, 15065, 15075, 15076, 15084 and 15238.

To register call social worker Victoria at 724-224-6310, ext. 1. Deadline to register is Dec. 7.

Toy donations can be made through the Walmart.com. Search the registry for Allegheny Valley Salvation Army Treasure for Good.


Boo Bash planned Saturday in Harrison

The Building Block of Natrona will host its annual Boo Bash from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Natrona Community Park, 12-20 River Road, Harrison.

There will be a DJ, weather permitting, and treats. Candy will be distributed with social distancing enforced and face masks required for those not wearing one as part of their costume.

Children attending do not have to live in Natrona.


Hazardous, electronic waste collection set in Lower Burrell

Lower Burrell will conduct a hazardous and electronic waste collection from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 7 at the police department parking lot, 2800 Bethel St.

Items that will be accepted include paint, paint thinner, pesticides, car and household batteries, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, pool chemicals, oil, electronic and Freon waste, televisions, computers and accessories, cell phones, air conditioning units, dehumidifiers and any other electronic with a cord, screen or circuit board.

Unacceptable items are explosives, ammunition, large appliances, pharmaceuticals, syringes, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, compressed gas, devices containing mercury and tires.

Food collection ongoing at Vandergrift VFW

Vandergrift Veterans of Foreign Wars is collecting non-perishable food items for local veterans in need.

A drop-off box is located behind the outer doors of the VFW, 141-143 Sumner Ave.

Any veteran in need should call the post at 724-568-1427 from noon to 10 p.m. every day of the week to arrange a pickup. Food not distributed by the middle of November will be taken to the Mechling/Shakely Veterans Center.
