Comedy night to benefit Markle fire chief

Markle Volunteer Fire Department, Allegheny Township, will have a comedy night fundraiser at 8 p.m. Nov. 20 at the firehall, 470 Joyce St. Proceeds will benefit department Chief Melvin “Jimmy” Rearick who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30. BYOB Performers will include Joey Purse, Karl Prohaska and Marcus Cox. Admission is $25, adults only. For reservations, call Joyce at 724-681-8467or visit marklevfd.square.site/.


Poetry reading planned at Penn State New Kensington

Shara McCallum, 2021-22 Penn State Laureate and Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of English, will read from her works from 12:05 to 1:20 p.m. Tuesday in the Forum Theater at Penn State New Kensington, Seventh Street Road, Upper Burrell.

The event is free and the public is welcome. Face masks are required indoors at all university locations regardless of vaccination status.
