Volunteers needed Saturday to work on stream project

Kiski Watershed Association is seeking volunteers to help with a stream restoration project set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Native Plant Reserve on West Leechburg Hill Road in Allegheny Township.

Help is needed to remove tree snags and rocks to fix the bank erosion near the trail. Please bring a chain saw, pry bar, come-along, rakes and shovels, if you have them. Wear old clothes and boots.


Scarecrow contest taking submissions

Tarentum Recreation Board is sponsoring its 12th annual Scarecrow Contest.

The contest is open to all groups, including family, friends, group, club, school, business, etc. There is no entry fee.

Scarecrows must be humorous, whimsical and lovable, but not frightening and be attached with only rope to the light poles along Corbet Street and Sixth Avenue. The sidewalk should be kept clear.

Call or text a photograph of the scarecrow after it is placed to 724-448-1470. Prizes are: first, $100 gift card; second, $75 gift card; third, $50 gift card.

Lower Burrell PD to host Coffee with a Cop

Lower Burrell Police Department will host, “Coffee with a Cop” from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday outside City Hall, 2800 Bethel St.

The event is to encourage positive interaction and meaningful dialogue between law enforcement officers and the public they serve.

Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church accepting donations

The Clothing Closet at Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, is accepting donations of clothing for men, women and children, as well as purses, shoes and belts.

Donations will be accepted during Closet operating hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the church, 305 Allegheny St., and by appointment.
