Bereavement care event for youngsters offered by Concordia

Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, will sponsor a free youth bereavement care event “The Art of Healing” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 14 for children and youth who have experienced the death of a loved one at its Middlesex Township location, 116 Browns Hill Road, suite 100.

There will be art activities and lunch will be served. Children up to 21 years old are welcome and must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required by Friday.

HOPE Center accepting donations

The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center is seeking accepting donations for the clients it serves. The center provides free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence and their families.

Items in need include new socks, underwear, slippers and pajamas in all adult and children’s sizes.

Donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the administration office, 500 E. Eighth Ave., Tarentum. If you are ordering online, request delivery to this address. For details, call 724-224-1100 or visit akhopecenter.org.

Today: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Clothing will be available at very low cost. Donations welcome during these hours.

Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean fall and back-to-school clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Thursday and Friday: Allegheny Valley Hospital Auxiliary will sell White Green Cloths from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Carlisle Corner of the hospital cafeteria, 1301 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights. The cloths are streak-free and spot-free and work on glass and other surfaces. Cost: $5, cash only. Proceeds benefit auxiliary projects for the hospital.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Nov. 10: Westmoreland County Marines Detachment is selling raffle tickets to benefit its Christmas Groceries for Veterans Families in Need program. The winning number from the Pennsylvania Lottery afternoon three-digit drawing will receive a $500 gift card to Community Market and the winner of the evening three-digit drawing will get a $1,000 gift card to Community Market.
