Food and fireworks to be featured Saturday in Arnold

Arnold Fire Department No. 1 will host a food truck and fireworks event from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the 18th Street ballfield in Arnold.

Vendors and offerings will include ox roast sandwiches by Arnold No. 1 firemen, fries by Arnold. No. 2 firemen, meatball subs by Arnold No. 2 Auxiliary, cotton candy and lemonade from Little C’s Concessions, barbeque by Sticky Mickey, pierogi from St. Vladimir Church, spit-fired chicken from CJS and Mediterranean food from Ash & Kris Kitchen. Food tickets will be sold in the concession stand on 18th Street.

Music will be performed by contemporary Christian group Risen to Save and Jerry Stay Humble Jefferson. Fireworks will end the evening at 8:15 p.m.


Free lunches available in Vandergrift

First United Methodist Church, 134 Custer St., will serve free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Lincoln Avenue side of the church.

The menu will include a 6-inch hoagie, bag of chips, snack cake and bottled water.


Peoples Library plans annual Adventure with Wine event

Peoples Library will sponsor a different kind of Adventure with Wine event – a drive-thru takeout meal with wine from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28 with pick-up in the parking lot behind the New Kensington location, 880 Barnes St.

The menu will be by Hoffstot’s Café Monaco of Oakmont and will include mixed greens with cider poppyseed vinaigrette, braised beef pot roast, shallot mashed potatoes, baby green beans, roll and butter, blueberry custard with whipped cream; and red wine.

Cost is $30. Registration is required by Oct. 20. To register, visit peopleslibrary.org.


Harrison diaper pantry offers monthly drive-up distribution

The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will distribute diapers 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights.

Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles.

First-time recipients must still provide present their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.


Food truck event to feature Murphy’s 56 East Band

Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will host, “Chill & Swill on the Hill,” from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday outside at the firehall, 4078 Route 66.

The Murphy’s 56 East Band will perform at 4 p.m. and there will be food truck vendors, a basket auction, tip boards, 50/50 raffle, and a bonfire, weather permitting.

No outside food or beverages, please. Proceeds will benefit the fire company.

Pull into the parking lot, exit your vehicle and select from four food stations set up in the truck bays. Menu: station 1: Italian sausage sandwich and macaroni and cheese; station 2: chicken tenders, fries, hot dogs with sauerkraut; station 3: Philly steak cheese fries, bacon and cheddar cheese fries; and station 4: chili and wedding soup.

Leechburg

Today: A New Path Al-Anon Family Group, a free, confidential program for anyone whose life has been affected by someone else’s drinking, will meet at 7 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, 251 Main St. Face masks and social distancing required.

New Kensington

Oakmont

Today: St. Paul Baptist Church, 180 Delaware Ave., will host a free drive-thru food box distribution from noon until supplies run out Thursday at the church. Boxes will include produce, dairy products and meat. No advance registration or appointment required.

Through Oct. 30: Oakmont Carnegie Library invites residents to visit its outdoor garden area on the Allegheny River Blvd. side of the library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd. Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to wooden stakes along an outdoor garden path. Details: 412-828-9532

Saturday: Hyde Park Scout Troop 551 will host a Meet Our Troop event from 3 to 8 p.m. at Pleasant View Brethren Church field, 1156 Pleasant View Drive, for children who are at least 11 and their families. There will be ultimate Frisbee, gaga ball, angle ball, interactive camp cooking, mountain pies, s’mores and a movie on a big screen.

South Buffalo  

Oct. 17: The Kevin Haas Memorial Truck and Tractor Pull will be at South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, 100 Fire Hall Road.
