Murder mystery fundraiser to benefit library
Community Library of Allegheny Valley will host a murder mystery fundraiser “Murder in the Library” from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd., Harrison.

Drive-through food distribution set Tuesday at Pittsburgh Mills
Allegheny Valley Association of Churches and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host a drive-thru food distribution for anyone in need from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in parking lot of the former JC Penney store at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, Frazer.
Reservations are not required. Guests should remain in their vehicles and open their door or trunk and will be served on a first come, first served basis.
Veterans appreciation breakfast planned Oct. 14
State Representative Jill Cooper of the 55th Legislative District will host a veterans appreciation breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 14 at the Washington Township Firehall, 4078 Route 66.
Veterans who reside in the 55th District are welcome. District 55 includes Arnold, Lower Burrell Ward 4 of Kinloch and Division 1; New Kensington, Bell, Upper Burrell, Washington Township, Avonmore and Oklahoma Borough.

The winner will receive 10 pounds each of chicken drums, wings, thighs and split breasts; boneless pork chops, T-bone steaks, shrimp, 80/20 hamburger, hot dogs, hot or sweet sausage, kielbasa, Delmonico steaks and bacon, a case each of corn, baked beans, water, soda and beer, a Blackstone LP gas griddle and a freezer. Oct. 2: St. James and Our Lady Queen of Peace parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh. Departure: 9 a.m. from the St. James church parking lot. The group will be at the casino for five hours. Cost: $35, includes $10 in free play and gratuity for the bus driver. A state-issued photo ID is required to receive the free play. Thursday: The free Pittsburgh Brewing Co. Thunder Summer Music Series will feature the Nied’s Hotel Band at the pavilion at the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way. Concerts start at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Gates open at 6 p.m. There is free parking and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating or outside food or drinks permitted.
