Project SEED accepting donations to feed local children

New Kensington-Arnold Project SEED is accepting donations to feed over 300 children each week in the district’s schools.

This will be the 13th year that Project SEED will provide weekend food bags for children in need. Cost is $4 per child per week. This year’s fundraising goal is $40,000.

Marine Corps to celebrate 250th anniversary

The Westmoreland County Marines Detachment will host a Marine Corps 250th birthday ball Nov. 8 at the Lower Burrell Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road, Lower Burrell.

There will be a buffet dinner, silent auction, speakers, award presentations, a 50-50 and dancing to DJ Clem. Cost is $40. Attire is formal and paid reservations are required. Touch-a Truck event set in Oakmont

The Fred Favo Memorial Touch-A-Truck event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Oakmont.

Over 25 types of trucks and vehicles will be lined up on Allegheny River Blvd. between Pennsylvania and Washington avenues and there will be children’s activities, a bounce house, music, food trucks and 50-50. Donations will be accepted to benefit the Oakmont Lions Club and Oakmont Carnegie Library.


Free certificate program available at Digital Foundry

The Digital Foundry of New Kensington will offer a free manufacturing and digital fundamentals certificate program from 5:45 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 30 through Nov. 20, and one Saturday at the Digital Foundry, 855 Fifth Ave., New Kensington.

An orientation session will be at 6 p.m. Thursday. Those who complete the course will receive hands-on learning, a Penn State University certification, a $425 stipend and access to experts in the industry and equipment such as robotics, automation and digital systems. A meal and supplies will be provided.
