Summer concert series to feature Moe Taters and the Gravy Train

The free Pittsburgh Brewing Co. Thunder Summer Music Series will feature the band Moe Taters and the Gravy Train Thursday at the pavilion at the Syria Shrine Center, 1877 Shriners Way, Harmar.

Concerts start at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Gates open at 6 p.m. There is free parking and food and beverages will be sold. No tailgating or outside food or drinks are permitted.

The series continues Thursdays through Oct. 12.

Sept. 24: St. James Parish is selling tickets for a grocery giveaway raffle. Cost: $10, includes two numbers. The winner will receive 10 pounds each of chicken drums, wings, thighs and split breasts; boneless pork chops, T-bone steaks, shrimp, 80/20 hamburger, hot dogs, hot or sweet sausage, kielbasa, Delmonico steaks and bacon, a case each of corn, baked beans, water, soda and beer, a Blackstone LP gas griddle and a freezer. Apollo/East Vandergrift

Oct. 2: St. James and Our Lady Queen of Peace parishes will sponsor a bus trip to Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh. Departure: 9 a.m. from the St. James church parking lot. The group will be at the casino for five hours. Cost: $35, includes $10 in free play and gratuity for the bus driver. A state-issued photo ID is required to receive the free play. Arnold

Tuesday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., will sponsor a bingo night. Doors open at 6 p.m. There is a $1,000 jackpot game with a $500 consolation prize. Pierogi, snacks, drinks, daubers and extra packages will be sold. Admission: $25.

Friday: St. Vladimir Church, 1610 Kenneth Ave., is accepting orders for its pierogi sale. Varieties: potato or sauerkraut. Pickup: 12:30 to 4 p.m. Fridays in the church social hall. Cost: $12 per dozen. Orders: 724-339-9257, 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Tuesday: The Knee High To Nature Series at the Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will offer a family program about birds at 6 p.m. at the center, 142 Kerr Road. Reservations required. Reservations: armstrongcenter.org/odc-events.

Saturday : The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will offer a program about cooking and preserving edible mushrooms at noon at the center, 142 Kerr Road. Buffalo Township

Tuesday: Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will host a drive-through food distribution for anyone in need from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway, 313 N. Pike Road. No reservations required. Guests should remain in their vehicles and open their door or trunk and will be served on a first come, first served basis.

East Vandergrift

Tuesday: East Vandergrift Community Foundation will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the borough building conference room. Activities will be discussed including plans for the second high school student scholarship application process for fall 2023. Interested citizens welcome.

Harrison

Tuesday: The Accordion Club is seeking new players of all ages. Meetings are from 6 to 8 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6003 Freeport Road. Details: 724-236-0665.
