Peoples Library plans annual Adventure with Wine event
Peoples Library will sponsor a different kind of Adventure with Wine event – a drive-thru takeout meal with wine from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28 with pick-up in the parking lot behind the New Kensington location, 880 Barnes St.
The menu will be by Hoffstot’s Café Monaco of Oakmont and will include mixed greens with cider poppy seed vinaigrette, braised beef pot roast, shallot mashed potatoes, baby green beans, roll and butter, blueberry custard with whipped cream; and red wine.

VA Butler Healthcare to host flu clinics
Flu vaccination clinics for veterans are planned in Armstrong and Butler counties. Dates and locations include:
• Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center, parking lot, 353 N. Duffy Road, Center Township, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday; Wednesday, Oct. 14 and Nov. 18
• Armstrong County VA Outpatient Clinic, 11 Hilltop Plaza, East Franklin, 12:30 to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 for veterans whose last name begins with A through M; 12:30 to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 for veterans whose last name begins with N through Z. Face masks are required to enter the building.
Veterans not enrolled for VA care may receive their flu shot if they bring a copy of their DD214 and one form of identification. They may also receive their flu vaccine from their VA provider. For more information, call Ron Collette at 878-271-6677.
West Deer church conducting winter coat drive
The Mission Team of East Union Presbyterian Church, West Deer, is conducting a winter coat drive through Thursday to benefit the East End Cooperative Ministry.
There are two ways to donate:
•Donate a gently-used coat that will be dry cleaned before distribution. Place the coat in a plastic garbage bag and drop it off in front of the church administration building. There is no need to go inside.
•Donate money toward East Union’s purchase of a minimum of 10 coats. Checks made out to the church with “coat drive” in the memo can be sent to 292 East Union Road, Cheswick PA 15024.
PennDOT announces work in Allegheny Township
PennDOT crews will be working on the following projects this week in Allegheny Township:
• Route 356: crack sealing
• Markle Road, pipe trenching
All work will be done on as weather permits. Motorists should expect delays and drive with caution in these areas.
Donations welcome for the Friendship Garden Food Pantry
Donations for the food pantry in the Tarentum Friendship Garden can be dropped off at the pantry on First Avenue or at the side doors to First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock St., Tarentum.
Items needed include cereal, bread, canned vegetables, soup, macaroni and cheese, rice, spaghetti and pasta sauce.
Free movie planned in Boyce Park
The free Allegheny County Family Drive-in Movie planned Tuesday in Boyce Park airfield parking lot will be, “Secret Life of Pets,” rated PG.
Gates open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. There is a 100-vehicle limit, first-come, first served. Refreshments will be available. The event is sponsored by the Allegheny Regional Asset District.
